The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to include Karun Nair in the Indian team for the Test series against the England National Cricket Team. As per the reports in PTI and AFP, it is learned that the batter is all set to be rewarded for his performances in domestic cricket.
Karun Nair has been in the red-hot form in the domestic cricket. The right-hander, who holds the record of scoring 300 in an innings, played a great role for Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The batter scored 863 runs from nine matches at an average of 54 with four hundred and two fifties.
Karun Nair was the fourth-highest run-maker in the Ranji Trophy, helps Vidarbha win their third title
Karun Nair, who also was the leading run-getter in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, was the fourth-highest run-maker in the Ranji Trophy and thanks to his heroics, Vidarbha won the title. They beat Kerala in the final to clinch their third Ranji title.
A source close to BCCI said that the governing body will be announcing the squad during the IPL knockouts as it will give them a clear picture of who will be available. He said:
“There is enough time to announce the squad, mostly ahead of the knockouts or just after those matches. You will then get a clear picture as to which players are available by then."
Rohit Sharma is all set to lead India in the five-match Test series against England
The reports also claimed that Rohit Sharma is all set to lead India in the five-match Test series against England. The batter came under massive scanner as a captain after the team suffered a whitewash against New Zealand at home and then lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
But, the India captain is all set to retain his place in the team. Thus, the Test series against England is likely to be a make-or-break series for him. He would be keen to make a strong comeback and silence all his critics, especially after the poor Australia tour.
Rohit Sharma scored just 31 runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
Rohit Sharma scored just 31 runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at an average of just around 6. The India captain also dropped himself from the last game of the series in Sydney, and at that time, it was expected that he wouldn't get any more chances in the longest format of the game.
The Test series against England will also mark the beginning of the new cycle of the World Test Championship. India, who failed to qualify for the final in the last edition, would be keen to start the new cycle on high and win the series in England after a long. The series is all set to begin from 20th June.
