Jalaj Saxena, the seasoned all-rounder from Kerala, has signed with Maharashtra for the upcoming 2025-26 domestic season, after having played for the former state for 9 years.

Several star players have recently left their state teams due to the limited opportunities presented to them and have shifted their base to a new side

The likes of former Tamil Nadu batting all-rounder Vijay Shankar and the Andhra batter Hanuma Vihari have moved to Tripura, while Prithvi Shaw has also made a huge swap to Maharashtra.

Kerala experienced all-rounder Jalaj Saxena has joined the Maharashtra Cricket Team

The Maharashtra Cricket Association has confirmed the move made by former Kerala all-rounder Jalaj Saxena, as the generational star alongside him brings immense experience, a remarkable career in Indian domestic cricket, and leadership qualities.

"Jalaj Saxena is an immensely talented and experienced cricketer whose achievements in the Ranji Trophy and domestic cricket are truly exceptional. He stands among India's best all-rounders."

"His vast experience will greatly benefit the younger players in the Maharashtra team, and his inclusion strengthens the team significantly," said the MCA President Rohit Pawar.

Jalaj Saxena shows great pride in joining the MCA

Despite never having played a single international game until this phase in his career, the great all-rounder has impressed all with his domestic statistics and has 7060 runs at an average of 33.77 it including 14 centuries and 34 half-centuries. The veteran has also picked 484 wickets and has 34 five-wicket hauls in 150 First-Class games.

His experience further extends to 109 List A matches, which also includes brief stints with the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the Punjab Kings in the IPL.

"It is a matter of great pride for me to join the Maharashtra cricket team. Maharashtra cricket has a rich legacy, and I am fully prepared to contribute my best for the team," he said.

"It is an honour to play alongside players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prithvi Shaw, and Ankit Bawne, as well as many talented newcomers. The Maharashtra Premier League is an excellent platform that helps upcoming players showcase their talent."

Alongside having highlighted the credentials of Saxena as one of the finest Indian domestic all-rounders, MCA has also praised his tactical brilliance, mentoring abilities, and several key assets for the team.

Saxena is the second appointment of the pre-season, ahead of the all-rounder, former Mumbai batter Prithvi Shaw has also made a move to the Maharashtra Cricket Association. He was the first major signing this season.

Maharashtra, alongside these players, has also included the likes of Shaun Williams as the director of cricket to strengthen their management. This will be his second role at the MCA after having served as their coach from 2008-12.

"His all-around abilities, coupled with his experience and leadership, will be invaluable for both the team and young cricketers seeking guidance. Jalaj Saxena is certainly a key prospect for Maharashtra this season," Williams said.
