Amid the poor run of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, one of the cricket fans on the social media platform 'X', urged the franchise to appoint the former England batter Kevin Pietersen as their mentor. The former England cricketer, who played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals in the past, hilariously replied to the fans.
In reply to the fan's reaction, the retired professional cricketer expressed his desire to join the 5-time IPL winners, as the southern city is not very far from the Maldives.

"Yes please. It is closer to the Maldives. Easier travel for me," Pietersen replied on Tuesday afternoon in response to a post which asked CSK, "Dear @ChennaiIPL please bring @KP24 as a Mentor."

Why did the former cricketer mention the Maldives?
But, why did Kevin Pietersen, whose home nation is England, mention the Maldives in his response? Actually, in the previous year, in 2025, when Kevin Pietersen, famously known as 'KP', was appointed as the mentor of the Delhi Capitals, he took a family vacation to the Maldives, in the middle of the season, which caused laughter in the cricket fraternity. The break caused him to miss a match as well.
Delhi Capitals star keeper-batter KL Rahul shares a strong bond with Pietersen. Now and then, Rahul takes a banter on Pietersen's vacation to the Maldives.
Pietersen went on vacation with his family after DC's emphatic win over the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025 season on April 5. He rejoined the franchise before DC's clash against the Mumbai Indians on April 13. In between April 5 and April 13, there was a match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 10, which Pietersen missed.

Later, after the end of Pietersen's vacation, when he rejoined the team, Delhi Capitals shared a video from their official social media accounts, which went viral across social media platforms as the cricket fans got to see an amusing moment between KL Rahul and KP.
"What's a mentor? Nobody knows,” said Pietersen. "A mentor is someone who goes to the Maldives for two weeks mid-season," KL Rahul replied. "Thanks, KL, now we know what a mentor does," the caption of the video reads.

In the comment section of the video, the former mentor of the Delhi Capitals wrote, tagging KL Rahul, "The wise guide of a cricket team who, through a mysterious blend of tactical genius and holiday planning, ensures the team is as adept at swinging bats as they are at swinging in hammocks. Known for the rare ability to teach the art of the perfect switch-hit and the secret to finding the best vacation deals during mid-season breaks. Often spotted with a clipboard in one hand and a travel brochure in the other. cc @klrahul."
