Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have brought in Delhi left-arm pacer Kuldip Yadav as Khaleel Ahmed’s replacement for the remaining matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 (IPL 2026).

The five-time champions had suffered a huge setback in April 2026 after their left-arm fast bowler Khaleel Ahmed was ruled out of the rest of the tournament because of a Grade 2 tear in his right quadriceps. He sustained that injury during CSK’s match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 14.

Key Points

  • Chennai Super Kings have reportedly signed Kuldip Yadav as Khaleel Ahmed’s replacement for IPL 2026.
  • Khaleel Ahmed was ruled out after suffering a Grade 2 quadriceps tear.
  • Kuldip Yadav previously played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 and IPL 2023.

After medical checks and scans, doctors advised complete rehabilitation for around 10 to 12 weeks, which ended Khaleel’s IPL 2026 campaign. Since the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have chances to make it to the playoffs, they have reportedly roped in Kuldip Yadav for the remainder of the season.

Kuldip Yadav is not a big name in the IPL world, but he already has some experience in the tournament. He was part of the Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 and 2023 seasons and even played three matches for them. During that short stint, he managed to pick up two wickets.

In domestic cricket, the left-arm pacer has played three first-class matches, one List-A match, and three T20 games, taking 5, 1, and 2 wickets, respectively. This could be the biggest opportunity for Kuldip, as the CSK opportunity will offer him the perfect platform to prove himself on the big stage.

Dian Forrester joins Chennai Super Kings as Jamie Overton ruled out of IPL 2026

Meanwhile, in another setback for Chennai Super Kings, England all-rounder Jamie Overton was ruled out of the rest of the season because of a right thigh injury. The injury has forced the star player to return to England for further treatment and medical checks.

This is a huge loss at a very important stage of the tournament for CSK. Overton was the franchise’s most reliable overseas player this season. He was contributing with both bat and ball in the ongoing IPL 2026. With the playoff race heating up, CSK has signed South African all-rounder Dian Forrester for INR 75 lakh for the remainder of the season.

Who is Dian Forrester?

The 25-year-old is a left-handed batter who can also bowl pace, making him a similar kind of player to Overton. He made his international debut for South Africa earlier this year against New Zealand and has already played five international matches.

Forrester has scored more than 1000 runs in first-class cricket at an average above 45. In the T20 format, he is known for playing fearless cricket, scoring 681 T20 runs at a strike rate of over 140. Recently, he featured in the PSL 2026 for Rawalpindi, where he scored 132 runs and picked up two wickets in six matches.

He also impressed in the SA20 league while playing for Joburg Super Kings. With an important clash scheduled for May 15 against Lucknow Super Giants, all eyes will be on the new signings in Lucknow. CSK are currently sitting fifth on the table with 12 points from 11 matches, and now they have to win the rest of the three matches to qualify for the playoffs.
