Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has etched his name into the record books on Sunday, April 21, in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Karthik, who is aiming to represent India in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, is in great form in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Karthik is currently doing his job in the 36th match of the ongoing IPL 2024 between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens, which was once his home ground, where he was representing the Kolkata franchise in the league.

When Karthik stepped into the field to take his wicketkeeping role for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday, he joined an elite club, becoming only the third player in the history of the IPL to achieve the rare feat.

Dinesh Karthik creates history in the IPL

Actually, the Indian wicketkeeper became the only third player in IPL history to play 250 games. Before Karthik, only MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma achieved this rare feat of playing 250 IPL matches.

Notably, Karthik, Dhoni, and Rohit all made history in the ongoing IPL 2024. In the list of the most matches played in the IPL, Dhoni is at the top with 256 matches, followed by Rohit (250), Karthik (250), Virat Kohli (245), and Ravindra Jadeja (232).

The former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper was the first player to play 250 IPL matches, and then Rohit made his entry to the club when he played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 18.

The 38-year-old played in all 17 seasons of the IPL, and he missed only two matches of his career in the cash-rich T20 league. Karthik represented six different teams in the tournament.

He began his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008 and then played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Mumbai Indians, RCB, the now defunct Gujarat Lions, and KKR over the years.

Before his 250th game, Karthik has so far amassed 4742 runs in 249 matches in the IPL. However, the RCB star hasn't scored a century in the lucrative tournament but has an impressive tally of 22 fifty-plus scores to his name. As a wicketkeeper, Karthik ranks second in terms of most runs scored in the IPL, trailing only behind legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni.

Karthik has so far amassed 4369 runs in the IPL as a wicketkeeper-batter, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Dhoni is leading the chart with 5051 runs as a wicketkeeper in the tournament. Notably, the RCB keeper is one of the standout performers for the team in the ongoing season.

He has so far scored 226 runs at an average of 75.33 and a strike rate of 205.45 in his 7 appearances for the RCB in the ongoing IPL 2024. However, RCB has been badly struggling this season as well, winning only one match in the tournament, but will look to get two points against KKR.
