Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) held their nerves to win a last-ball thriller against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the just-concluded 36th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Eden Gardens.

RCB's chances of winning the game looked done and dusted after Andre Russell dismissed Dinesh Karthik on the final ball of the 19th over. In the last over, the visitors needed to score 21 runs with only two wickets in hand. With Mitchell Starc to bowl the final over, not many were expecting a close finish. RCB, however, almost won the game thanks to a stunning cameo from Karn Sharma but eventually fell short by just one run.

Batting for the first time this season, Karn Sharma hit three sixes off the first four balls of the over from Starc to bring down the equation to 3 from the last two balls. On the fifth ball of the over, he hit one straight back to Starc and the KKR pacer took a sharp catch to turn the game on its head.

With three runs needed on the final ball of the over, Lockie Ferguson hit Starc's delivery towards deep extra cover. Ferguson and his partner Mohammed Siraj completed the first run and quickly set off for the second. The fielder could not fire in a good throw as he threw the ball wide of wicketkeeper Phil Salt.

However, the England wicketkeeper did well to collect the ball and took the bails off in a flash before Ferguson could complete the second run.

Watch as Phil Salt runs out Lockie Ferguson on the final ball:

Earlier in the game, KKR finished their innings on 222 for 6 after being asked to bat first. Captain Shreyas Iyer top-scored for the hosts, scoring 50 off 36 balls while Salt smashed 48 runs from just 14 balls.

In reply, RCB had raced away to 137 for 2 after just 11 overs thanks to whirlwind fifties from Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar before failing to capitalise on their strong position. KKR now have five wins in seven games this season while RCB have won only one of their eight games.
