Rahul Tripathi was absolutely distraught after being run out in the ongoing first qualifier of IPL 2024 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The right-handed batsman had already scored a fighting fifty and was looking destined to power SRH to a big total before his hopes were dashed in the 14th over. Rahul Tripathi came out to bat in the very first over after Mitchell Starc clean-bowled Travis Head for a duck. In the second over, Vaibhav Arora dismissed Abhishek Sharma as well to leave SRH reeling at 13 for 2.

Before the end of the powerplay, SRH lost two more wickets as Starc dismissed Nitish Reddy and Shahbaz Ahmed on successive deliveries to reduce the Hyderabad-based outfit to 39 for 4. Rahul Tripathi and Heinrich Klaasen then steadied the ship and also set the foundation for a good total by adding 62 runs in quick time for the fifth wicket.

When Klaasen was dismissed in the 11th over, SRH were on 101 for 5. With nine overs still left and a well-set Rahul Tripathi in the middle, SRH were looking set to post a good total. However, they suffered a huge blow in the 14th over when a miscommunication between Tripathi and Abdul Samad ended the former's stay at the crease.

On the second ball of the over bowled by Sunil Narine, Samad hit the ball towards the left of Andre Russell at backward point. The KKR allrounder made a fine diving stop. In the meantime, Samad set off for the single while Tripathi was looking at the ball.

Tripathi was stranded in the middle of the pitch when Russell stood up and threw the ball to wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz who took the bails off. SRH CEO Kavya Maran was left fuming looking at the run out of Tripathi following a catastrophic mix-up.

The right-handed batsman departed after scoring 55 runs off 35 balls against his former team. After the dismissal, a heartbroken Rahul was seen sitting near the stairs with his head down on his knee, seemingly crying over his dismissal.
