KL Rahul confirmed to feature in India A's 2nd warm-up match before England Test series

KL Rahul is all set to play in the second unofficial Test match for India A against the England Lions at Northampton, starting June 6. KL Rahul will fly to England on Monday, June 1, to join the India A squad ahead of the second unofficial Test match in Northampton.

Since Delhi Capitals (DC) didn’t qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs, Rahul has reportedly informed the national selectors that he is fit and available for red-ball action ahead of the highly anticipated Test series in England. He is part of India’s 18-member squad for the five-match Test series in England.

BCCI sources confirmed to The Indian Express, “He will be flying on Monday and will be playing a second warm-up game with the India A side. As he is part of the senior men’s team, which will be playing five Test matches in the series, these matches will give him game time and match practice.”

Notably, the Indian cricket team, led by Shubman Gill, is scheduled to play an intra-squad match against the India A team at Beckenham on June 13, ahead of the much-anticipated five-match Test series opener against Ben Stokes and Co. at Leeds on June 20.

Meanwhile, India A will begin their England tour with the first unofficial Test against England Lions on Friday, May 30, at the St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury, with the second and final game scheduled at the County Ground in Northampton on June 6.

I love red ball cricket: KL Rahul

Speaking about KL Rahul’s recent Test performances, the Karnataka batter showed his form during India’s last tour to Australia, where he scored 255 runs in five matches at an average of 30.66, including two half-centuries to his name.

With 58 Test matches under his belt, Rahul brings valuable experience to the relatively young Indian side in the upcoming Test series against England. He recently admitted that red-ball cricket remains his favorite format and everyone in the Indian team feels the same and that Test cricket is still their top priority.

KL Rahul was quoted as saying by Sky Sports, “I love red ball cricket. I mean, you can’t take that away from me or anyone who’s part of that Indian team. Everyone that I’ve spoken to on that Indian team, we’re all on the same page as to Test cricket being number one for us. We love playing Test cricket, and that hasn’t changed for me.”

KL Rahul recalls waking up early to watch England and Australia in Test actions

The right-handed batter fondly remembered his childhood days when he would wake up early to watch Test matches in England and Australia with his father.

Rahul signed off by saying, “I grew up watching Test cricket. I grew up watching you guys play for England. I used to wake up at five in the morning and watch Test cricket in Australia with my father. He loved watching cricket as well.”

Notably, Rahul had a stunning IPL 2025 season with Delhi Capitals, amassing 539 runs in 13 matches with the help of three fifties at an average of around 54 and a strike rate of near 150.
