Team India batter KL Rahul recently opened up about the challenge of proving himself throughout his international career. The right-handed batter said that people seem to forget what a player has done in recent tournaments, adding that it has been a challenge for him in his cricketing career.

Rahul has evolved from a stylish top-order batter into a flexible team player who can adapt to various roles. His ability to bat lower in the middle order and take on wicketkeeping duties proved vital to India’s recent success in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 — the team’s first 50-over title in 12 years.

“I don’t mind proving myself all the time. That’s how any sport is – to always perform in every tournament,” he said in an interview for Sky Sports.

"That’s the case with international cricketers anywhere in the world. But that’s not the hard part – it’s the people who make the decisions who seem to forget what the player has done in the recent tournament. It has been the challenge for me," he added.

You See People Writing and Commenting - KL Rahul

The 33-year-old said that criticism might return when he plays in India’s ODI series in Bangladesh this August. Rahul also mentioned that emotions got the better of him during the press conference after the Champions Trophy semifinal.

“The next ODI tournament might be after five months because it’s going to be a long English Test summer and you see people writing and commenting ‘we need to look for players who can play the 2027 World Cup or the World Cup after that.’ But it’s not just a challenge for me but every cricketer goes through it. I got a bit emotional during the press conference (after Champions Trophy semifinal) and said that,” he further added.

KL Rahul Played for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025

KL Rahul played for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2025. He once again switched between middle-order duties as a wicketkeeper and stepped in as an opener when needed. The star batter was the leading run-getter for his team, amassing 539 runs in 13 innings at an impressive strike rate of 149.72.

However, his team was knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoff race. He will next be seen in action during the five-match Test series against England, which is scheduled to commence on June 20. The Karnataka-born cricketer is one of the senior players in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

The Test series between India and England will begin in Leeds on June 20. According to the schedule, the remaining four matches will take place at Edgbaston (July 2-6), Lord's (July 10-14), Old Trafford (July 23-27), and The Oval (July 31-August 4).
