India National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir was actively involved with the players ahead of the second Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. As per the reports in Indian Express, it is learned that the coach had a special focus on KL Rahul.
The reports claimed that Gautam Gambhir had a keen eye on KL Rahul as the batter batted against spinners in the nets ahead of the second India vs Bangladesh Test. The head coach reportedly came out running to see the batter as he started facing spinners in training sessions.
Watching KL Rahul, Gautam Gambhir asked the batter to use his feet against the spinners. As a result of that, the keeper-batter came down the track and played some crisp shots down the ground. However, after that, the batter was asked to shift focus to forward defense and try using his wrists to get singles.
Rahul reportedly faced difficulties in that as there were bat-and-pad chances that could have easily gone to the short-leg fielder. However, after working tirelessly on the same thing, the right-hander mastered the art of it and played that shot to perfection.
Rahul learning the thing quickly made Gautam Gambhir applaud him. The head coach patted the batter on the back as he left the nets. The right-hander would be hoping to make an impact in the second Test, which will be played at the Green Park in Kanpur from 27th September.
KL Rahul played as middle order batter for India in the first Test against Bangladesh
KL Rahul played as middle order batter for India in the first Test against Bangladesh National Cricket Team. He, however, looked stuck at the crease as he failed to bat freely, scoring 16 runs off 52 balls in the first innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
But Rahul looked a bit free in the second innings. It was when India had taken a massive lead and he came out with positive intent and scored gorgeous boundaries. He made an unbeaten 22 runs off 19 balls with 4 boundaries before India declared the innings.
Rahul arguably is one of the most talented players in Indian cricket, but somehow, he has managed to use his talent to his full potential. The batter has had his moments in Test cricket but, after that, has failed to be consistent as he seems to be stuck on the crease and doesn't play with the fluency for which he is known.
Rahul slammed a sensational century in South Africa, where he donned the keeping gloves. The keeper-batter scored 101 at Centurion, where the other Indian batsmen struggled. After that, he made the same kind of impact in the England series as he made 86 and 22 against England in the first Test before getting ruled out of the series.
With Gautam Gambhir working on him, KL Rahul would be keen to make an impact in the second Test. India won the first Test by the margin of 280 runs and would be hoping be complete the whitewash.
