Lahore crowd erupts with chants for Temba Bavuma

In the second semi-final, Temba Bavuma was unlucky at the toss as the coin didn't fall in his favor, and the Proteas were invited to bowl first in the match.

South African bowlers had a nightmarish outing against New Zealand as Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson blasted brilliant centuries to take their team to a huge total of 362/6.

Chasing the target, Temba Bavuma, who returned to the playing XI after recovering from illness, opened the innings with the in-form batter Ryan Rickelton.

The duo were unable to provide their team with a good start as Ryan Rickelton fell in the 5th over when the team score was just 20 runs.

After losing his opening partner, Bavuma continued his slow batting for a while before accelerating. He hit some good boundaries to impress the crowd in Lahore.

Looking at this, the spectators made sure to show their love towards Temba Bavuma as they erupted with 'Bavuma, Bavuma' chants. These chants echoed throughout the stadium for quite some time.

What happened in the previous ICC Champions Trophy match between New Zealand and South Africa?

The previous ICC Champions Trophy match between South Africa and New Zealand was held in Centurion on September 24, 2009. In that match, South Africa emerged victorious by five wickets with 53 balls to spare. The top two performers for the Proteas in the match were Wayne Parnell and AB de Villiers.

After being put to bat first, New Zealand struggled for momentum throughout their innings. Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor, and Grant Elliott were the only batters who looked good and were able to take on the South African bowlers.

Ross Taylor made crucial 72 runs for his side while Brendon McCullum (44) and Grant Elliott (39) chipped in with decent contributions as New Zealand posted 214 on the board in 47.5 overs.

For South Africa, Parnell led the charge, dismantling the middle and lower order to finish with impressive figures of 5/57. Roelof van der Merwe and Dale Steyn also bowled well to apply pressure on the Kiwis.

Chasing 215, South Africa faced an early setback as Graeme Smith fell for a low score to Daryl Tuffey.

However, Jacques Kallis counterattacked with a brilliant 36 runs while Hashim Amla contributed a steady 38 runs. Meanwhile, it was AB de Villiers who played the best knock as he smashed 70* runs off 76 balls. He received support from Mark Boucher (28) and Albie Morkel (19*) as they steered the Proteas home comfortably.
