The Lanka Premier League (LPL), initially expected to kickstart on the 29th of July, has suffered a significant postponement. The second edition of the tournament would now begin from the 19th of November and continue till the 12th of December. The decision has been taken so that more foreign contingent would be able to participate in the competition.

The Governing Council of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) believes that rescheduling the event would enable more overseas players from leading cricketing nations to participate. The Council also recognized that at least one similar T20 league and several international tours are part of the calendar during the initial date of LPL 2021.

The official promoters of the LPL, Innovative Production Group FZE support the decision to postpone the competition to November. Anil Mohan, founder and the CEO of the organization, claimed that the league’s success remains the priority; hence, they thanked Sri Lanka cricket, the government, and all other stakeholders for their support.
