Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Brendon McCullum opened up about his 158* runs knock in the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said that his innings in the first-ever IPL match changed his life as many got to realize his potential.

One of the major reasons behind the success of the Indian Premier League has been Brendon McCullum. The Kiwi batter, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders set the tone of the league as he played a stupendous knock and gave fans a real teaser of what is about to come in the league.

Brendon McCullum unleashed his beast mode as he played an unbeaten knock of 158 runs off 73 balls. He entertained fans in M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to a great extent and made sure that their money was worth spending. He also slammed 10 fours and 13 sixes in his innings as well.

Brendon McCullum while talking about the innings said that he daydreams about it as it changed his life. He highlighted that before that knock everyone knew him as just a cricketer for New Zealand but that innings provided a great platform to him. Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab’s Leaders Meet India in Bengaluru, he explained:

“The reason why I daydream about that moment is because it literally changed my life. I was just a cricketer for New Zealand, where no one really knew what you did where you are from, or What you are capable of. But that day provided the platform, the forum, and the opportunity to change my life.”

Brendon McCullum played 109 games in IPL. He mustered 2880 runs at a strike rate of 131.75. The batter also smashed 2 centuries and 13 half-centuries in his innings.

Brendon McCullum will be again in India during the months of February and March. The head coach of the England team will be having the toughest challenge ahead of him as they will be taking on India in a five-match Test series.

Brendon McCullum, who is yet to lose a series as coach, expressed his excitement ahead of the Test series against India. He said that it’ll be fabulous to emerge as winners but even if they lose they will go down playing the Bazball approach. He explained:

“We have got a huge challenge against a very good Indian team in five tests in India. I am excited about it because you want to test yourself against the best side and I genuinely believe that India is the best in their own condition.

“It is going to be a good challenge for us. If we have success then fabulous, if we don’t then I know we will go down in the style that we want to go down. We are playing the game, because we love cricket and we want to try and be as good at cricket as we possibly can.”

The Test series between India and England will kick start from 25th January in Hyderabad. Vishakhapatnam, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharmsala will also host games.
