Hat-trick of defeats for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). On Sunday, the target of 251, set by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), was too much for the former champions. RCB, the defending champions of the ongoing Indian Premier League season (IPL 2026), continues their winning streak by defeating their arch-rivals by 43 runs.

At their very own M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB batters ran a riot against the CSK bowling department. The total of 250 was evidence of how much the bowlers in Yellow had to suffer while facing the opposing team's batters.

Tim David, the wrecker-in-chief in the RCB vs CSK IPL 2026 match in Bengaluru

Tim David turned into the wrecker-in-chief with the bat for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, scoring an unbeaten 70 off 25 balls with a staggering strike rate of 280.0. To maintain the blazing hitting, the Australian all-rounder smashed three 4s and eight 6s in the process.

RCB captain Rajat Patidar, under whose leadership the team claimed their maiden IPL title in 2025, proved why he is considered one of the most prolific domestic batters in the shortest format of the game.

Patidar accompanied Tim David well by hammering six 6s and one 4 in his unbeaten 48-run innings off 19 balls. Before the batting display of David and Patidar, it was Devdutt Patidar who initiated the run feast.

The in-form batter, who scored plenty of runs ahead of the IPL 2026 in the domestic tournaments, registered 50 off 29. Opener Phil Salt was also not far behind as he claimed 46 runs, facing 30 balls. Virat Kohli (28) was the only top-order batter of RCB who looked out of touch tonight.

CSK tried, but failed brutally

Shivam Dube turned into the most expensive bowler for the Chennai Super Kings, conceding 30 runs in 2 overs with a wicket in hand. Jamie Overton’s economy rate was slightly below Dube’s, as he leaked 42 runs in 3 overs. Noor Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, and Matt Henry all of them offered 12 runs on average in their respective bowling spells.

Under immense pressure, CSK lost their top-order batters inside the power play. Sanju Samson, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ayush Mhatre departed cheaply in the run chase. Sarfaraz Khan was the exception from the Super Kings’ batting order, who claimed a 50 off 25. Prashant Veer and Jamie Overton got 43 and 37 runs, respectively. In response to RCB’s 250, CSK managed to get 207 runs against 10 wickets.

Ruturaj Gaikwad takes the responsibilities on his shoulders

“Well, even I was surprised, to be honest. Great fight by Sarfaraz, Prashant Veer, Jamie Overton, and even to some extent Shivam Dube. So I think, maybe I could have contributed more to the top of the order. You never know, we would have chased it down,” CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said after the match.

“I think Anshul almost got a wicket of him (Tim David). Unfortunate to be illegal delivery, but yeah, after that, he just smacked all over the park, and, as you rightly said, hats off to him. (on not taking their chances in the field)."

"We would have had, as you rightly said, if you had taken the early chance of Virat Kohli, I think that was, I mean, maybe he would have had momentum for us. But I think we still had the game in our hands till the 13th, 14th over, and that's when the momentum really shifted,” he added.
