South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock smashed a century during the third and final ODI against India at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, December 6. Proteas fans were delighted with the left-handed batter’s hundred against the Indian bowling attack in the must-win match.

KL Rahul opted to bowl in the third ODI, ending India’s long 20-match streak of losing the toss. Arshdeep Singh struck early with the new ball. South Africa recovered well as Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma added 113 runs off 121 balls for the second wicket. De Kock scored at a brisk pace despite the early wicket.

Quinton de Kock Reaches His Century with a Six off Harshit Rana

Quinton de Kock brought up his century in the 30th over. The left-handed batter reached the landmark by pulling Harshit Rana for a six. The entire South African camp applauded him, and Virat Kohli, stationed at cover, was also seen clapping for the South African opening batter.

After battling through the movement of the new ball, de Kock settled in and dominated the innings with a flawless display of stroke play. The wicketkeeper-batter reached the hundred off just 80 balls.

With the knock from the opener, the visiting team placed themselves in a commanding position to post a mammoth total in the first innings. The dew factor in the second innings could also be a key consideration for South Africa while setting the target.

Quinton de Kock Equals Sanath Jayasuriya’s Record for Most ODI Hundreds Against India

Quinton de Kock scored his seventh ODI century against India. He now has the joint-most ODI tons against India in the 50-over format. With the hundred, he equalled Sanath Jayasuriya’s tally of seven centuries against the Men in Blue.

The Sri Lankan legend took 85 innings to score seven hundreds, while de Kock needed only 23 innings. He has surpassed Ricky Ponting, AB de Villiers, and Kumar Sangakkara, who each have six.

De Kock has smashed 23 ODI centuries as a designated wicketkeeper. He shares the top spot with Kumar Sangakkara for the most ODI hundreds by a wicketkeeper in cricket history. Shai Hope, Adam Gilchrist, Jos Buttler, AB de Villiers, and MS Dhoni also feature on the list of wicketkeepers.
