IPL 2025 witnessed another record-breaking season along with a new champion. In this article, we will look at the performance of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
LSG Squad Rating for IPL 2025: 6.5/10
Lucknow Super Giants, one of the two teams that made their IPL debut in 2022, started the journey with back-to-back playoff appearances, but the story hasn't been the same in the last couple of seasons
The team decided to go with a new captain, Rishabh Pant, who replaced KL Rahul in the team. Along with it, the Lucknow Super Giants management also banked on a young fast bowling group and an overseas batting lineup.
The move to go in with an all Indian bowling attack backfired badly as the bowlers were not able to defend 200-plus targets in the majority of the games.
As far as LSG's batting is concerned, it had overseas batters as their top three in the form of Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, and Nicholas Pooran taking charge in the first six overs.
The opening duo of Markram and Marsh did their job as both batters scored more than 400 runs in the tournament.
Marsh, who played only as a batter, scored the bulk of the team's runs, which included a century against GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Marsh was the highest run scorer for the team in IPL 2025 and ended the season with 627 runs under his belt.
Markram, on the other hand, gave good support to Marsh and complimented him by taking the pressure off the Australian all-rounder through his aggressive strokeplay.
Poran also played aggressively in the first half of the tournament and laid the platform for the incoming batters.
But the problem for Lucknow Super Giants started with the below par performance of two of the most expierence batters of the team, captain Rishabh Pant and David Miller.
Pant and Miller failed to get going in the entire season, which was one of the reasons for LSG's disappointing performance with the bat.
Other than the form of the duo, the inexpertise in the lower middle order comprising the likes of Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad was also prevalent as the tournament progressed.
Highest Run Scorers
Player | Matches | Runs | Strike Rate | 6s |
Mitchell Marsh | 13 | 627 | 163.70 | 37 |
Nicholas Pooran | 14 | 524 | 196.25 | 40 |
Aiden Markram | 13 | 445 | 148.82 | 22 |
As discussed earlier, LSG pinned their hopes on an inexperienced bowling attack comprising Mayank Yadav, Aakash, and Digvesh Rathi, with Avesh Khan being the most experienced bowler in the lineup.
Having said that, it was LSG's bowling that won them matches while defending a below-par total against RR and MI, but the bowlers were not able to replicate the performance on a consistent basis.
LSG's spin bowling department was taken care of by Digvesh Rathi, who impressed everyone in his debut season.
