The Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have had a miserable campaign so far at the ongoing TATA Indian Premier League 2026 (TATA IPL 2026). LSG’s big-money players have been their biggest flops this season, and things look worse than last season.
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are presently sinking at the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table with 6 losses from 8 games. They are currently gearing up for their next clash against another struggling team, the Mumbai Indians (MI), on May 4 at the Wankhede Stadium in the tournament.
LSG get Josh Inglis boost but lose Matthew Breetzke before the MI clash in IPL 2026
Ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 clash with the Mumbai Indians, the Lucknow Super Giants have received a big boost and a massive setback at the same time. As reported by ESPNCricinfo, Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has joined the LSG squad before their important clash.

At the same time, South African batter Matthew Breetzke left the Lucknow team in the middle of the season due to personal reasons. There is still no clarity on whether he will return to India. Breetzke reportedly returned home mainly because a close relative from his wife’s family had recently passed away.
Well, Inglis’ return came at a crucial time, as LSG desperately needed a turnaround in the ongoing IPL 2026. The Australian star has started training with the squad. He is available for selection straight away and can be added to the playing XI against the Mumbai Indians.

Josh Inglis set for fresh start after PBKS release
LSG had bought Inglis for a whopping INR 8.60 crore after he was released by Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of IPL 2026 because of his limited availability. He had earlier informed PBKS that his availability would be limited this season due to his wedding plans, which took place in April in Western Australia.
During his time with PBKS, Inglis was one of their aggressive hitters, scoring 278 runs in 11 innings and shifting the momentum in pressure situations. LSG is now hoping he can bring stability and aggression to their middle order, which has struggled badly this season.
Inglis set for straight entry into LSG XI as overseas stars fail badly
The situation in the Lucknow Super Giants camp has been helpless as their overseas batting lineup has not performed as expected. Big names like Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, and Mitchell Marsh have all failed to deliver consistently.
Pooran, in particular, has been struggling badly. With Breetzke leaving and big names underperforming, Inglis could get an immediate chance in the playing XI against MI at the Wankhede Stadium.
The Lucknow team management is seriously considering changes as they try to fix their batting problems for the remaining games, which may include adjusting the batting order or bringing in new players to improve their performance.
LSG face a tough schedule as IPL 2026 playoff hopes hang by a thread
LSG’s upcoming schedule is also very tough. After facing the Mumbai Indians on May 4, they will host Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Lucknow on May 7, followed by a big match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai on May 10 and May 15 in Lucknow and the Rajasthan Royals on May 17.
They will aim for surprising setbacks to keep their IPL 2026 playoffs hope alive, having failed to make it in the 2024 and 2025 seasons already, which puts additional pressure on their performance in these upcoming matches.
