Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has shared his views on the abrupt end of Mohammad Hafeez’s stint as the team director of the Pakistan team.

The former Pakistan captain was appointed as the team director by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after Pakistan’s dismal show at the ODI World Cup where they managed to win only four of their nine league games. Apart from being the team director, Mohammad Hafeez also served as the head coach during the tours of Australia and New Zealand.

However, just two months after the appointment, Mohammad Hafeez has been relieved of the role. On Friday (February 16), he himself announced the news on social media. The former allrounder stated that his stint with the Pakistan team had been “cut short” by the “new chairmanship” of the PCB.

“I accepted the new role as a director PCB with great passion to make positive reforms but unfortunately my designated tenure which was offered by the PCB for 4 years was cut short for 2 months on the account of new chairmanship,” Mohammad Hafeez wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Soon after Hafeez announced the news on X, Michael Vaughan decided to react to it. The former cricketer-turned-commentator, who was engaged in some hilarious banters with Hafeez on social media in recent times, said that the ex-Pakistan captain was doing a good job as wrote:

“You were doing a really good job .. Madness why they wouldn’t want you to carry on !!!”

Mohammad Hafeez’s stint:

Pakistan played two series with Mohammad Hafeez in charge of the team. The first series was the three-match Test series in Australia. While Pakistan ended up losing all three Tests, they did receive praise from several quarters for their performance in testing conditions.

It was followed by a five-match T20I series in New Zealand. The Men in Green failed to do well on that tour as they suffered a 4-1 loss. Results apart, Mohammad Hafeez was reportedly not a very popular figure among the players because of his tough stance on the No Objection Certificate (NOC) issue. As per reports, Hafeez wanted the players to prioritize the national team over the T20 leagues which did not go down well with a number of players.
