Young Indian spin all-rounder Manav Suthar has now earned a short-term deal just days after making a dream Test debut for India. The left-arm spinner is all set to join the Warwickshire County Cricket Club in the ongoing County Championship.
On Wednesday, June 10, the Warwickshire County Cricket Club announced the signing of Suthar in the middle of the ongoing County Championship. Suthar impressed one and all with his historic Test debut performance against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh.
Manav Suthar's dream run continues with Warwickshire deal
As India return to ICC World Test Championship action in Sri Lanka this August, Suthar will be hoping to earn a place in the playing XI and form a strong spin trio with Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar as they have won only four Tests from nine so far.
Before making his India debut, Suthar had an impressive first-class record, having already claimed 129 wickets in just 29 games. Now, the talented spinner has another big opportunity to prove himself in English conditions. Warwickshire has signed Suthar on a short-term contract to boost their hopes to retain their County Championship title this season.
James Thomas backs Manav Suthar to add new firepower to Warwickshire attack
Announcing the signing, the Warwickshire Performance Director James Thomas welcomed Suthar to the side and said the young Indian spinner comes at the perfect time for the club. He believes that Suthar will add something different to the bowling attack.
James Thomas said in an official statement, "We're delighted to welcome Manav to the Bears at a really exciting time for the team. We’ve played some good red-ball cricket already this season, and Manav will bring a new aspect to our bowling attack. It shows how highly he’s rated in India after his selection to their Test team last week, so it’s going to be great to have him around the group.”
Manav Suthar ready for new challenge with Warwickshire
Meanwhile, Manav Suthar expressed his excitement after joining Warwickshire and said he is looking forward to playing the next two County Championship matches. The young spinner hopes to make a valuable contribution in their push for the title.
