South Africa’s fast bowling all-rounder Marco Jansen and young pacer Gerald Coetzee have been sidelined for the scheduled Test series against Bangladesh. South Africa recently won a two-match Test series against the West Indies after winning the first Test by 40 runs, with the second Test ending in a draw at the Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago.
South Africa is now facing the hosts West Indies in a three-match T20I series, losing the first game by seven wickets. After the West Indies Test series, South Africa’s red-ball head coach Shukri Conrad announced that Jansen and Gerald Coetzee will not be featured in their next Test series against Bangladesh.

Conrad said that both Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee are currently undergoing intensive conditioning programs, and they won't be considered for the next Test series. Adding to the surprise, ace Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada is set to be sidelined for an extended period.
The head coach revealed that Rabada has been given an eight-week rest, making him unavailable for crucial white-ball matches against Afghanistan and Ireland. South Africa will play six T20Is and six ODIs against Afghanistan and Ireland in September-October. Then, they will play four T20Is against India in November, followed by a Test series against Sri Lanka.

Jansen and Coetzee rising stars for South Africa Cricket
Speaking about Marco Jansen, the South African fast bowler has quickly emerged as one of the most exciting talents in international cricket. Jansen is known for his height (6 feet 8 inches), pace, and ability to swing the ball both ways. He is a formidable force for the Proteas side.
Marco Jansen made his international debut in 2021, and he has so far represented South Africa in 13 Tests, 23 ODIs, and 13 T20Is. The fast-bowling all-rounder has taken 49, 35, and 13 wickets in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, respectively, with 401, 422, and 64 runs to his name.
On the other hand, Gerald Coetzee is also a rising star in South African cricket, and the promising fast bowler is known for his raw pace and aggressive bowling style. Gerald Coetzee’s cricketing journey began at a young age, and he gained attention with his performances at the Under-19 level.
His ability to bowl consistently above 140 km/h and knack for taking wickets made him a standout performer for South Africa. The right-armer made his international debut in 2023 against the West Indies in Tests. He has got the opportunity to play 3, 14, and 6 matches in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, respectively. Gerald Coetzee has so far scalped 10, 31, and 8 wickets in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, respectively.
Notably, Gerald Coetzee had missed the recent Test series against the West Indies because of a side strain, which he picked up during the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 in the USA. Coetzee was playing for the Texas Super Kings (TSK) in the MLC 2024, where he injured his left side.
