South African Head Coach Mark Boucher has started making headlines as Mumbai Indians have named him their head coach for the upcoming 2023 Edition. Legendary Wicket-keeper batter has been the reason behind South Africa’s revival in all forms of the game. The Proteas have been a force to reckon with and Cricket South Africa (CSA) would be hoping that the team gets its maiden T20 Title this year.
Mumbai Indians have a history of being the most successful franchise in the history of IPL. The Franchise however in 2022 had a below-par season which might have prompted to make a change to the coaching setup. Mahela Jayawardene, the former Head Coach has got a role at the global level of MI; Mahela helped MI to 3 titles in 2017, 2019 & 2020.
Mahela Jayawardene on Mark Boucher
“Mark, he is an exciting coach, the way he has transformed South Africa’s white-ball cricket in the last two years. He has been brilliant and he is also someone that we felt who we think differently and will contribute in a very positive way to Mumbai Indians,” he said.
“Especially when we have a group of players with the skill set that we have. Then we have a younger group coming through as well, so that’s the transition we need to manage. We feel that Mark is going to be the best man for that,” Jayawardene added.

Steep Road Ahead for Mark Boucher
Mark Boucher knows that MI will have lots of expectations from him. MI is such a franchise whose aim is to win Championship no matter what happens. Boucher throughout his coaching career has shown that he believes in the process rather than results. We should remember that this is Boucher’s maiden stint in IPL and we all know that IPL is a completely different ball game.
It would be interesting to see whether MI change its coaching staff also. Head Coach also needs trust-worthy members as single-handedly he can’t create magic. MI Owners would be believing that Boucher can change the fortunes of MI who were in tatters last year. MI should be patient with Boucher and not be hasty as getting used to the flavour of IPL takes time.
