England bundled out for 172
The Ben Stokes-led side won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. They got off to a horrible start, losing Zak Crawley for a duck in the first over itself, and from thereon they tried their best to put up a fight.
Harry Brook, Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith, and Ben Duckett were the only batters who played decently and looked good in the middle, while the rest struggled. The bowler who troubled the English team the most was the veteran Mitchell Starc.
Mitchell Starc returned with the career best figures of 7/58 as Australia bowled out the English team for 172 in 32.5 overs.
Speaking after the end of the innings, former England bowler Alex Hartley expressed disappointment over the poor batting show of the English team. However, she was quick to praise Mitchell Starc for his exceptional bowling performance in Perth. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra, she said:
"It's been disappointing. Having been bowled out in the 33rd over is poor. England just fell into a heap and Australia ended up on top. You can't take anything away from Mitchell Starc's innings, what a performance."
Meanwhile, the former England skipper Michael Vaughan was left furious at the English team and said that they displayed Bazball without brains. He said:
"It was Bazball without brains. If you look at the last dismissal, in England that's a six. Here in Australia, the boundaries are the maximum size, they need to think about the shots they are playing."
