West Indies' Matthew Forde, on Friday (May 23), equaled the record for the fastest ODI fifty. The 23-year-old achieved the feat during the 2nd ODI against Ireland in Dublin.
Matthew Forde, who is predominantly a fast bowler, scored the fifty in just 16 balls. His whirlwind knock was studded with two fours and eight sixes. He eventually scored 58 runs off just 19 balls, with 56 of those runs coming from boundaries alone.

It was also his first fifty in international cricket, and he could not have scored it in a better fashion. He equaled the legendary AB de Villiers's record of hitting a 16-ball fifty. De Villiers scored the fastest ODI fifty against West Indies in 2015, reaching the landmark in just 16 balls.
Fastest ODI half-centuries:
- AB de Villiers - 16 balls
- Matthew Forde - 16 balls
- Sanath Jayasuriya - 17 balls
- Kusal Perera - 17 balls
- Martin Guptill - 17 balls
- Liam Livingstone - 17 balls
Keacy Carty and Matthew Forde power West Indies to a big total
Keacy Carty scored a century while Matthew Forde scored a whirlwind fifty to help West Indies post a daunting total of 352/8 in 50 overs. The visitors were off to a shaky start as Brandon King (8) and Evin Lewis (20) departed cheaply.
Captain Shai Hope and Carty then steadied the ship by adding 81 runs for the third wicket. Liam McCarthy broke the stand by dismissing Hope for 49. Unlike Hope, Carty made the most of the start and went on to smash his second ODI century. He scored 102 runs off 109 balls before being dismissed by McCarthy.
West Indies lost a couple of wickets in quick succession in the middle overs and were reeling at 213/5 in the 37th over. Even the 300-run mark was looking tough at that stage. However, their lower-order rose to the occasion and delivered an impressive batting display to power them to 352.
Apart from Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves and Roston Chase played crucial knocks as well. Greaves scored an unbeaten 44 while Chase scored 24. Gudakesh Motie also played a quickfire cameo of 18 runs from just 8 balls. For Ireland, McCarthy picked up 3 wickets while Joshua Little and Barry McCarthy picked up 2 wickets each.
