Guyana Amazon Warriors batter Mavendra Dindyal survived a bizarre run-out during Qualifier 2 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2026 against Jamaica Kingsmen. Keemo Paul’s direct hit struck the stumps while Dindyal was short of his crease, but the bails did not come off until after he had made his ground.
The incident occurred during the knockout match at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown on Friday, September 18. Jamaica Kingsmen chased down a target of 207 to eliminate the Amazon Warriors. Shimron Hetmyer smashed an unbeaten 102, but his effort went in vain as his team suffered a five-wicket defeat.
Mavendra Dindyal Survives Controversial Direct-Hit Run-Out in CPL 2026
The controversial incident occurred on the fourth ball of the fourth over during Guyana Amazon Warriors’ innings. Mavendra Dindyal flicked a full delivery off Andre Russell towards square leg and set off for a single before Shai Hope sent him back.
Keemo Paul quickly moved to his right, collected the ball with one hand and fired a direct hit at the striker’s end. Dindyal was clearly short of his crease when the ball hit the stumps, but the bails did not come off immediately.
The bails remained in place for a moment before finally dislodging. By then, Dindyal had stretched his bat back into the crease. The TV umpire reviewed the incident and ruled him not out, giving the Guyana batter a fortunate reprieve.

CPL Run-Out Controversy Explained: Why Mavendra Dindyal Was Given Not Out
The decision created confusion because Mavendra Dindyal was visibly out of his ground when the ball first struck the stumps. However, under the Laws of Cricket, the wicket is considered broken only when a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps or a stump is uprooted.
In this case, the direct hit did not immediately dislodge either bail. The Zing wicket lights came on only after the bail was finally removed, by which time Dindyal had made his ground.
Therefore the TV umpire ruled that the wicket was not broken when Dindyal was short of his crease. It was an unusual example of a batter surviving what appeared to be a clear run-out because the bails had not yet been dislodged.
Shimron Hetmyer’s 102 Goes in Vain as Jamaica Kingsmen Reach CPL 2026 Final
Mavendra Dindyal’s reprieve did not last long. Hassan Khan dismissed him for 3, but Shimron Hetmyer produced a stunning unbeaten 102 off 45 balls to help Guyana Amazon Warriors post 206/4. He added 96 runs with Shai Hope and another 65 with Quentin Sampson.
Jamaica Kingsmen then produced a composed chase. Maaz Sadaqat and Kirk McKenzie added 42 runs in the first three overs before McKenzie and Keacy Carty put together a 48-run stand. Carty, who scored 56 off 40 balls, later added 62 with Saim Ayub.
Rovman Powell smashed 40 off just 17 balls. He took on Khary Pierre and Imran Tahir before hitting Shamar Joseph for a four and a six in the 19th over. Jamaica needed only four runs from the final four balls when Powell was dismissed, but Hassan Khan finished the chase with two boundaries.
Jamaica Kingsmen reached 207/5 with four balls remaining to secure a five-wicket win and book their place in the CPL 2026 final against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on Sunday.
