Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav is all set to begin his extensive rehabilitation process after he underwent a successful surgery at Christchurch. He underwent the procedure after struggling with his back pain.
Dr. Rowan Schouten, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon known as the specialist for spine surgery in Christchurch, has previously operated on notable cricketers like Jasprit Bumrah, Jason Behrendorff, Prasidh Krishna, Cameron Green, and James Pattinson.
After the recurrence of the back injury ruled the Indian speedster out of the mid-season of the Indian Premier League, as a result of which he underwent surgery with a focus on his L5 vertebra on both the left and right sides.
It has been reported by IANS that Mayank will begin his rehabilitation at CoE in the weeks to come, though no specific timeline has been set for his recovery yet.
Mayank Yadav's Injury Status
The young, dynamic pacer has faced a series of injuries throughout his career and has been kept out of the game due to these injuries. He rose to fame in the last IPL for clocking an impressive pace with the ball and earning the man of the match awards in the first two games he played for the Lucknow Super Giants.
After Lucknow Super Giants opted to retain him for the IPL 2025 season for a huge INR 14 Crores, his potential return to the IPL was also delayed earlier this year due to a toe infection. He returned to feature in only 2 IPL games, where he relied mostly on slower deliveries.
After a brief pause in the IPL, it returned with the remainder of the season, and Mayank Yadav had sustained another injury by then. The LSG franchise finally decided to name New Zealand pacer Will O'Rourke as his replacement.
Mayank Yadav missed the majority of IPL 2025
Mayank missed the initial part of the Indian Premier League in the previous season for the Lucknow Super Giants. The Super Giants missed the services of most of their fast bowlers like Akash Deep, Mayank Yadav, and Mohsin Khan.
Mayank, however, made his comeback after recovering from injury and played two games for the Lucknow-based franchise. His two games came against the Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings, but his pace saw a major dip, and he relied only on tactics rather than skills as a bowler this time around.
Is Mayank Yadav eyeing a comeback before the Asia Cup
The speedster might be looking forward to the rehabilitation in the BCCI centre of excellence, as he would be eyeing a comeback before the onset of India's campaign for the Asia Cup.
Mayank Yadav, the 23-year-old Delhi pacer, made his debut for Team India against Bangladesh back in 2024, playing only 3 games and picking 4 wickets before he was ruled out due to injury. With the Asia Cup around the corner, everyone is preparing for the same, and Mayank would also be looking forward to the Asia Cup for a comeback.
