Mayank Yadav's career-threatening injury rules him out of cricket action for a long time

India National Cricket Team fast bowler Mayank Yadav has suffered a massive blow. As per the reports in IANS, it is learned that the fast bowler, who clocks over 150 kmph consistently, will be out of action for around three months more.

Mayank Yadav made his debut for the India National Cricket Team in the recently concluded T20I series against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. The pacer had a great outing with the ball in the three games that he played for the team.

Mayank breathed fire with the ball in the series and took four wickets in India's 3-0 series victory against Bangladesh. It was then expected that he would be part of the India National Cricket Team for the upcoming four-match T20I series against the South Africa National Cricket Team.

However, Mayank wasn't named in the squad for the series as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) clarified that the fast bowler will be missing the series due to the injury. The pacer is currently at the BCCI's newly inaugurated Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru.

However, a fresh set of reports have revealed that Mayank will be out of action for a long time. The reports claimed that the is likely to be sidelined for a few months because of a back problem. Speaking to the IANS, the source close to developments said:

“He's back here for another problem, which might keep him out for three months. Mostly, it's something related to the back, but there's not much clarity on it. But then, it's also something that is believed to keep him out for a considerable amount of time.

“The way with which he came here, the first feelers from it are looking at him being out for two-three months initially and maybe, it could be more."

Mayank Yadav's career has been marred by a lot of injuries. He came into the scenes during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 while playing for Lucknow Super Giants. The pacer troubled the batters big time during the tournament but was ruled out of the tournament due to an abdominal strain.

Mayank then underwent extensive rehab and worked on regaining match fitness at the CoE (formerly the NCA). But now again has got injured. He has been in the Indian team plans for the T20 World Cup 2026 and management would want to make him fit as soon as possible.

With the IPL retention deadline coming on October 31, Mayank is a strong contender to be one of the five players retained by LSG, who acquired him for INR 20 lakh in the auction before the 2022 season. There have been reports that the franchise is keen to keep him in the mix.
