The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has made four important requests to the Board of Control for Cricket in India at its Annual General Meeting held on Friday, September 18, in Mumbai. The Mumbai Cricket Association has asked for a new Under-17 national tournament for girls, more international matches for Wankhede Stadium, and better communication about matches being held in Mumbai.
The Mumbai Cricket Association has also invited representatives of state cricket associations to visit the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum after BCCI’s Annual General Meeting. The association believes these steps can help young women cricketers get more opportunities and also improve coordination between the BCCI and state associations. Amid this, BCCI set to bring mini-auction back to India after 3 years.
MCA wants an Under-17 tournament for girls
The Mumbai Cricket Association’s biggest request is for the Board of Control for Cricket in India to introduce a proper national-level Under-17 tournament for girls. The association feels that young female cricketers need more opportunities to play competitive cricket at an early age.
A national Under-17 tournament could give talented players a strong platform to perform and help them move towards higher levels of women’s cricket. The MCA believes such a competition can also help improve the talent pathway for women’s cricket across the country.
The Mumbai Cricket Association letter stated, as quoted by the Indian Express, "MCA requests the Board of Control for Cricket in India to consider introducing a structured Under-17 Girls Cricket Tournament at the national level. Such a tournament would provide an important competitive platform for young female cricketers, strengthen the talent development pathway, and further support the growth of women’s cricket across the country.”
More international matches for Wankhede Stadium
The Mumbai Cricket Association has also asked the BCCI to give Wankhede Stadium more international matches in future schedules while highlighting its record of successfully conducting major matches.
The state body also said that they remain committed to providing good facilities and smooth match operations for players, officials, and fans. Amid this, Mohammad Rizwan seeks Jay Shah-led ICC’s support to counter NCCIA probe.
The letter added, “As Wankhede Stadium is a permanent Test Centre with a proud history of successfully staging marquee international fixtures, MCA would be grateful if the BCCI could consider allotting a greater number of international matches to the venue in future programs."
MCA wants information about matches in advance
Another request from the Mumbai Cricket Association is about communication with the BCCI. The association wants to be informed whenever matches are scheduled at stadiums or other cricket venues that come under its jurisdiction. The Mumbai Cricket Association feels that getting this information in advance will help them.
The letter stated, “MCA would be grateful if, as a matter of courtesy, the Association could be kept informed whenever matches are scheduled at stadiums or venues located within its jurisdiction. Such communication would assist MCA in addressing queries from its members and stakeholders and would help foster smooth coordination and cooperation among all concerned.”
State Associations invited to MCA Cricket Museum
The fourth proposal is related to the Mumbai Cricket Association Sharad Pawar Cricket Museum. The Mumbai Cricket Association has invited representatives of all state cricket associations who are attending the BCCI AGM to visit the museum after the meeting.
The museum showcases the history and achievements of Mumbai cricket. The Mumbai Cricket Association said it would be happy to welcome representatives from different state associations and give them an opportunity to see Mumbai’s rich cricket history.
