MCC Announces 18 New Honorary Life Members, Harbhajan Singh and Javagal Srinath Included In The List

On Tuesday, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) announced 18 new honorary life members and Indian cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Javagal Srinath were included in the list. Notably, MCC awards Honorary Life Membership (HLM) of the club to some of the best cricketers of the generation.

The Chief Executive & Secretary of MCC, Guy Lavender, in an official release stated:

We are absolutely thrilled to be able to welcome our newest Honorary Life Members of MCC. The cricketers announced today are among the greatest international players of their generation.”

He further added:

We are privileged to now count them as valued members of our Club,”

The Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh who is regarded as one of the best Indian spinners of all time has made it into the list of honorary life members. In his very successful Test career, Harbhajan Singh has picked 417 Test wickets in 103 matches and is India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Tests.

Meanwhile, Javagal Srinath is one of the finest Indian seamers to step foot into the One Day International (ODI) cricket scene. He has bagged 315 wickets in his ODI career and is currently India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the 50-over format.

Meanwhile, England players Sir Alastair Cook, Ian Bell and Marcus Trescothick have also been included in the list. Cook is the leading run-scorer for England in Tests and combining the runs of the three above-mentioned England cricketers they have more than 39,000 international runs. Also, star England cricketer Sarah Taylor who is regarded as one of the best wicketkeepers of all time has been included.

From South Africa, in total four players have been awarded the Honorary Life Membership. The list contains Hashim Amla, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis and Morne Morkel. Australian cricketers Alex Blackwell and Damien Martyn are also included.

From West Indies Ian Bishop, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan are included in the list.

Meanwhile, the legendary Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath who has scalped 433 Test wickets in his career has been awarded Honorary Life Membership.
