MI Retained and Released players list for IPL 2026: Full Mumbai Indians squad ahead of the auction
Table of Contents
The five-time IPL title-winning team, the Mumbai Indians, have announced their final retained squad and will enter the mini-auction with the lowest purse in the history of the IPL. MI has made some interesting trades ahead of the mini-auction and is not looking forward to any further revamp.
The Mumbai Indians, one of the most well-known franchises in the history of the IPL, reached Qualifier 2 of the last season and impressed with their revamped squad. They looked settled with just a few loopholes, which they probably fixed with trades in the pre-season.
Mumbai Indians Retained Players
The Mumbai Indians did not show any surprise with their retained players, except for a few like Robin Minz, who, despite opportunities, could not manifest much. They have also kept faith in their overseas options, Mitchell Santner, Will Jacks, and Corbin Bosch, who played the last season.
Retained - Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Robin Minz, Ryan Rickelton, Hardik Pandya (C), Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Will Jacks, Corbin Bosch, Raj Bawa, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar, Ashwani Kumar, Raghu Sharma, AM Ghazanfar
Traded in - Sherfane Rutherford, Mayank Markande, Shardul Thakur
Traded out - Arjun Tendulkar
Mumbai Indians Released Players
The players released have also not been very shocking from the MI end, as they have only parted with players who did not play much of a role for them last season. Among the players released, only Karn Sharma, Vignesh Puthur, and S Raja were among the players who featured in multiple games in the previous edition.
Mumbai Indians Released Players: S. Raju, Reece Topley, KL Shrijith, Karn Sharma, Bevon Jacobs, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Lizaad Williams, and Vignesh Puthur.
Mumbai Indians Squad: Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Sherfane Rutherford, Robin Minz, Ryan Rickelton, Hardik Pandya, Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Will Jacks, Corbin Bosch, Shardul Thakur, Raj Bawa, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Deepak Chahar, Ashwani Kumar, Raghu Sharma, Allah Ghazanfar and Mayank Markande.
What value do Sherfane Rutherford and Shardul Thakur add to MI's power-packed squad?
The Mumbai Indians looked like one of the most balanced teams on paper during the last season of the IPL. They had the World's two top-ranked T20I batters, the highest-ever run-getter in T20Is, the World's no. 1 T20I all-rounder and the World's no. 1 bowler, all on their side.
Despite all these players, what they lacked was the firepower towards the backend of the innings. Sherfane Rutherford is likely to be brought in to show his potential big-hitting skills towards the backend. Moreover, if he is positioned in the middle order, then Hardik Pandya can likely be pushed back as a death overs finisher.
Moreover, MI looked troubled with their fourth pace option, despite the presence of Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah and Deepak Chahar. The impact player rule allows bringing in extra bowlers if needed. Shardul Thakur's experience and his awareness at the Wankhede might be of some use to the 5-time champions.
