The veteran Mumbai Indians (MI) leg-spinner Piyush Chawla looked at his very best in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, May 6.
Piyush Chawla picked up three biggest wickets in the innings as he dismissed Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad - all three batters who have been winning matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier (IPL).
The best of the three wickets picked by Piyush Chawla was of Heinrich Klaasen as he rattled the stumps of the South African batsman. Notably, Piyush Chawla enjoys great success against Heinrich Klaasen in IPL as in 4 innings, he has dismissed the batter twice while giving away just 29 runs.
On the first ball of the 13th over, Piyush Chawla bowled a 91.9kph delivery on the stumps and Klaasen went for a big slog. The batter only managed to get an inside edge and saw his stumps getting rattled. After dismissing the batsman, Piyush Chawla looked quite pumped and he was seen saying an abusive word - Behe****d.
It's not gripping that much because a lot of dew - Piyush Chawla
Speaking during the mid-innings break, Piyush Chawla said that a lot of dew had come in the first innings itself. Chawla added that he got the idea of which length to bowl after playing a few matches. Piyush Chawl elaborated:
"It's not gripping that much because a lot of dew has already come in. For seamers, there's quite a bit of help. This season, batters go for it if they see the ball a little pitched up even if they are new to the crease - I didn't realise that in the first few matches, but got the idea later about what length to bowl. 173 isn't going to be that easy, we'll still have to bat well. No, there's hardly anything for spinners in this wicket."
In the end, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished their innings with a score of 173/8. The two performers in the batting department for SRH were Travis Head (48) and Pat Cummins (35).
Notably, this is the second time these two teams were going head-to-head with each other in the ongoing edition of the competition. The first clash between the teams was an absolute high-scoring match where SRH emerged victorious by 31 runs on March 27.
Since that game, Sunrisers Hyderabad have gone on to deliver great performances but Mumbai Indians have gone from bad to worse and are on the verge of getting eliminated from the playoffs race.
