Michael Klinger Named Gujarat Giants Head Coach Ahead Of WPL 2024

Former Australian cricketer Michael Klinger has been appointed as the head coach of the Gujarat Giants for the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Michael Klinger will take over the charge of the Gujarat Giants team from Rachael Haynes.

The Gujarat Giants had a disappointing performance in the WPL 2023. The team finished at the bottom of the points table with only two wins out of eight matches. The franchise aimed to strengthen its squad during the WPL 2024 auction with new acquisitions.

Michael Klinger Will Help Bring Out The Best – Mithali Raj

Michael Klinger joins the Gujarat Giants’ coaching staff, alongside bowling coach Nooshin Al Khadeer and mentor Mithali Raj. Raj expressed confidence in Klinger’s appointment as head coach for the Gujarat Giants, citing his potential to enhance player performance.

“Working with Michael will help bring out the best in the Gujarat Giants players. His expertise with the bat is also well-known, and will surely benefit some of the younger members of our team. We look forward to having Klinger in the dressing room. We are sure of attaining success with him as head coach,” Raj said about the appointment.

Michael Klinger served as head coach of the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL) for two seasons, in 2019 and 2020. Klinger’s coaching experience extends to the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), where he led the Sydney Thunder to fourth place last year.

Hope To Take The Team To Ultimate Glory – Michael Klinger

Michael Klinger expressed optimism about the Gujarat Giants’ prospects in the upcoming Women’s Premier League season. The former Australian cricketer highlighted his aim to lead the Giants to ultimate success in the upcoming tournament.

“The Gujarat Giants have a chance to do something special in Season 2 of the Women’s Premier League. I am eagerly looking forward to working with the cricketing legend Mithali Raj, who has played a transformative role in women’s cricket in India. Together with the Adani Sportsline family, Mithali Raj, and the rest of the team, I hope to take the team to ultimate glory,” Klinger said in a statement.

At 36 years old, he represented Australia in three T20 internationals against Sri Lanka in February 2017. He scored 143 runs at an average of 47.67 at a notable strike rate of 127.68, with his highest score being 62.

Gujarat Giants To Kick Off Their Campaign On February 25

The Giants made significant acquisitions in the auction, securing players like Kashvee Gautam and Phoebe Litchfield. Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce and Veda Krishnamurthy will strengthen the batting. They will kick off their campaign on February 25 against the Mumbai Indians.
