With IPL 2025 just a few hours away, former England captain Michael Vaughan has shared his predictions. Vaughan predicted the team that will lift the trophy, as well as the players who will claim the Orange Cap for most runs and the Purple Cap for most wickets in the upcoming season.

The Indian Premier League 2025 will kick off on Saturday, March 22, with a match between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens. The Knight Riders won the previous season by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of the IPL 2024.

However, they will be without their captain, Hardik Pandya, for the opening fixture. The team will also miss the services of their premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, for the initial few games as he continues to recover from a back injury sustained during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.

Mumbai Indians last won the IPL title in 2020. They are one of the most successful franchises in the tournament's history, with five titles. If they manage to win IPL 2025, they will become the most successful team in the competition, surpassing Chennai Super Kings' five titles.

He scored 483, 890, and 426 runs, respectively, in the last three IPL seasons.

Gill also played a crucial role in India's 2025 Champions Trophy triumph in Dubai. The right-handed batter amassed 188 runs in five innings at an impressive average of 75.50. He was named the ICC Player of the Month for February after scoring consecutive centuries against England and Bangladesh.

Michael Vaughan predicted Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakaravarthy to finish as the highest wicket-taker in the season. The mystery spinner has been in top form, emerging as India's joint-highest wicket-taker in their Champions Trophy-winning campaign with nine scalps in just three innings.

Chakaravarthy has taken 83 wickets in 70 IPL innings so far. He was instrumental in KKR’s title-winning run last season. Varun finished as the second-highest wicket-taker of IPL 2024 with 21 dismissals in 14 matches. The Knight Knight Riders retained him for ₹12 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
