Former England captain Michael Vaughan has alleged the ICC for setting up the T20 World Cup 2024 in favor of Rohit Sharma's team India to win.

Michael Vaughan made these comments on the eve of England and India's 2nd semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA. The match, which will take place at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, is going to be a replay of the 2022 edition's SF match between the two teams in Adelaide.

Back then, Jos Buttler's England had claimed a 10-wicket victory against Rohit Sharma's Men in Blue before winning it all in the finale at Melbourne. In this T20 WC edition, the Indians will be eager and hungry to get their revenge on the reigning champions and reach the final by winning against the team to beat in the tournament.

It is often said that - to win a major competition, a team has to beat the best or the most successful team in the competition. In that regard, India have already defeated the most decorated cricket team in the world, Australia, and now England remains the other competition.

If Rohit Sharma and co. are able to get a result in their favor later tonight, then the pressure against South Africa, who reached their maiden ICC final, will lower. But just a day before the mouthwatering clash in Guyana, former English captain Michael Vaughan directed some vicious allegations towards the International Cricket Council for unfairly favoring team India.

Michael Vaughan claims the T20 World Cup 2024 is India's tournament

While speaking in the latest Club Prairie Fire podcast, Michael Vaughan alleged the ICC of giving a helping hand to the Indian team. Vaughan made it clear from his very first statement, claiming that the T20 WC 2024 is India's own tournament.

He explained the factors like knowing their semi-final venue and playing all their matches in the day as the reason behind his claim against the ICC. Michael Vaughan believes that it is something that should not happen, at least at a World Cup stage. Even if the ICC does favor India, then it should be limited to bilateral series only but not when 20 teams are playing a WC.

Vaughan feels that the narrative of BCCI contributing a major sum of revenue in world cricket is an unfair reason to get such a treatment.

"Well it's their tournament, isn't it? Literally, it's their tournament. They get to play whenever they want, they get to know exactly where their semi-final will be. They played every single game in the morning so people can watch them at night in India. I get that."

"I get that Money is a big play in the world of cricket and I get that in bilateral series. But you would think that when you get to a world cup, the ICC should be a little bit fairer to everybody. This tournament is purely set up for India as simple as that," Michael Vaughan said via Club Prairie Fire.
