Former cricketer Michael Vaughan has predicted the winner of the upcoming five-match T20I series between the India cricket team and the England cricket team. Michael Vaughan backed the Jos Buttler-led team to dominate the Suryakumar Yadav-led side and clinch victory in the exciting T20I series.
The T20I series will kick off on Wednesday, January 22, in Kolkata. The subsequent matches will take place in Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai. This will be the first five-match T20I series between the two teams since 2021. India won the series 3-2 in their last encounter in Ahmedabad four years ago.
England Will Win - Michael Vaughan Predicts Winner of IND vs ENG T20I Series
England will be seeking revenge for their loss in the 2021 T20I series and their semifinal defeat against India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
England's hopes of defending their T20 World Cup title were dashed after the loss. The Jos Buttler-led team is determined to turn things around in the T20I series in India.
Michael Vaughan was asked for his prediction regarding the T20 series between India and England. Vaughan stated that England will win the series by a margin of 3-2.
"England will win 3-2," Michael Vaughan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
India has won three of their last five T20I matches against England. In 2022, England lost a home series to India 1-2, but they bounced back by defeating India by 10 wickets in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup.
Sanjay Manjrekar Highlights the Significance of 2025 IND vs ENG T20I Series
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar emphasized the significance of the T20I series against England. He said that the series is crucial for head coach Gautam Gambhir, especially after India's recent losses in back-to-back Test series against New Zealand and Australia, as well as the ODI series in Sri Lanka.
"Let’s hope that he [Gautam Gambhir] can feel a little settled and the pressure is off him. He’ll have a new bunch of young players which is likely an easier challenge for him than the one that he had in Australia. So, winning these matches is important," Manjrekar told ESPNcricinfo.
"It’ll just get him to feel part of that team but what will happen in the Champions Trophy and the England tour could spoil all the good work that he could’ve done before that. So, those are the two tournaments,” Manjrekar added.
India and England to Face Off in Three-Match ODI Series Following T20Is
After the T20I series, India and England will play a three-match ODI series. Following that, both teams will head to Dubai and Pakistan, respectively, for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The tournament will begin on February 19, with the final scheduled for March 9. India, led by Rohit Sharma, will start their campaign against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 20. England, on the other hand, will face Australia in their opening match in Lahore on February 22.
