'Milestone-obsessed' KL Rahul deemed selfish over shocking Lord's Test call as Gambhir’s close mate explodes

The India vs England Lord's Test marked a series of controversies, odd decisions, and several turning points, as well as moments of heated exchange between players. Amid all these stood a strange call made by Indian opener KL Rahul in the first innings for India.
KL Rahul was batting alongside Rishabh Pant, and the two had built a successful 141-run partnership for the fourth wicket until lunch on Day 3. However, a controversial call made by KL Rahul just at the stroke of lunch found India short of a successful pre-lunch session.
KL Rahul, who had been batting since the day before, had set himself up and was not out on 99*, with Rishabh Pant on strike to face the remaining balls before lunch. Pant till then looked set and never fumbled enough to be dismissed, but was run out as KL Rahul urged him for a single to get back on strike and reach his hundred before lunch is called.
Robin Uthappa's dig at KL Rahul for the unreasonable call
Former Indian batsman Robin Uthappa recently showed his baffling reactions to why KL Rahul was not questioned about his decision to get to a hundred before lunch.
It was due to that idiotic call that India lost Rishabh Pant's wicket, and it acted as the major turning point that India could manage to only level the scores of 387 with England and not take their lead further. Eventually, India lost the game by just 22 runs.
"Did anyone ask him why he deemed getting his 100 important before the lunch break? There must have been a reason. Why was that a thought? Why was that deeply considered? If someone asked him why, we would have gotten to the bottom of this whole thing about milestones," said Uthappa on his channel.
However, the former player, after raising the question, also has his version of an answer to it, and mind you, the answer sounds very tactful.
"I reckon the communication between Rahul and Pant would have been, you know what, I think we need to take the attack on, we both are set."
"If I can get my 100 before lunch, then we can take the attack to them immediately after, and then you can hold fort (Rishabh) while I take the attack on and lets get these guys out of the game completely. That perhaps was the thought process," explained Uthappa.
Uthappa also blasts the Indian media and critics
Robin Uthappa also mentioned that the importance of a century would not have been more than the team itself for any Australian or English batter; it is only for Indian players, and he blamed the media for sensitizing players only with milestone knocks and the critics for criticizing players without milestones.
"I don't think these numbers would matter for an Australian or an English player in the long run. But for an Indian player, it matters."
"A hundred matters. It means a lot more because it means a lot more to the Indian media and critics alike. So hundreds and milestones are a big thing," Uthappa said while slamming the media for giving too much importance to milestones.
Former KKR star holds IPL responsible for growing significance of milestones
The former Kolkata Knight Riders batter and part of the winning squad back in 2014 took a recent dig at the IPL for making every ordinary achievement look like a milestone. Recently, Suryakumar Yadav, his former teammate, broke Uthappa's record and went on to score 14 consecutive 25+ scores in the IPL.
"Everything is a milestone right now. They've stolen the novelty that existed. I heard in the IPL, first to score 10 consecutive 25s. I'm like what? what are we at? We are overdoing the stats and milestones now."
"This was for Suryakumar Yadav. Common, 25 runs for Suryakumar Yadav is one over away. He has that caliber. It's him. At least make it 40 runs. I just think this whole thing about stats and milestones we wouldn't even discuss," Uthappa brought to notice.
