Mithun Manhas announced as new BCCI President by Rajeev Shukla

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to get a new president, as the position has been vacant since Roger Binny stepped down due to the age limit rule. Since Roger Binny’s resignation, the vice-captain, Rajeev Shukla, has been serving as the BCCI’s interim president.
Ahead of the India-Pakistan Super Four clash in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, September 21, Rajeev Shukla has confirmed that former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas will take over as the next head of the world’s richest cricket board.

On Sunday, multiple candidates submitted their nominations for key positions at the BCCI, including president, vice-president, secretary, joint secretary, treasurer, and IPL governing council chairman. Rajeev Shukla has himself filed his nomination for the vice-president role.

After which, Shukla revealed that Mithun Manhas has been selected as the new BCCI president. Additionally, Arun Dhumal will continue as the chairman of the IPL governing council.
Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying by News18: “A new body is being made for the next term. Mithun Manhas is a former player, and it was decided to make him the president. Arun Dhumal is the chairman of the IPL governing council, and he will continue in that position.”
Rajeev Shukla to continue as Vice-President
It is being said that the current BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, is set to continue in his role, while Shukla will remain vice-president. Treasurer Prabhtej Bhatia is likely to step into the joint-secretary role, replacing Rohan Desai of Goa on the board.
Jaydev Shah is expected to join the BCCI Apex Council, taking the place of Khairul Jamal Majumdar, who is likely to move to the IPL Governing Council.

Who is Mithun Manhas?
Mithun Manhas represented Delhi and captained the side during his long domestic career spanning from 1997-98 to 2016-17. He played 157 first-class matches, 130 List A games, and 91 T20s, scoring 9,714 runs, 4,126 runs, and 1,170 runs, respectively, in the formats.
Manhas also has an impressive IPL career. He played for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), the now-defunct Pune Warriors India, and Chennai Super Kings. He has 514 runs at a strike rate of 109.36 in 55 matches in the IPL to his name.
Currently, Manhas is part of a BCCI-appointed sub-committee overseeing the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association. He has also worked as a coach for several teams, including the Bangladesh U19 men’s team, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Titans.
BCCI to announce Test squad by September 23-24 for West Indies series
On the other hand, the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the India squad for the upcoming two-match home Test series against the West Indies will be announced in the next few days. The Test series will kick off on October 2 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, with the second and final Test scheduled for October 10 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Devajit Saikia told reporters at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, as quoted by the Times of India: “Selection for the Indian Test team for the upcoming Test series against the West Indies will be done on Sept 23 or 24… selection meeting will be online.”
