England all-rounder Moeen Ali will return to action on Saturday via the Birmingham League. He had returned from India, where he featured in 6 games for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021 before the tournament was suspended.

The 14th edition of the IPL was postponed earlier in May following an outbreak of the covid-19 in four separate franchises, CSK included. The Super Kings’ bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a member of the franchise’s service staff were reported positive for the virus; later, batting coach Mike Hussey also returned a positive test.

Moeen Ali along with other England members have completed their quarantine upon returning from India, and the all-rounder is set to feature in the Birmingham League, where he will be joined by his family members.

Moeen Ali to play alongside his brothers in the Birmingham League

Moeen Ali will turn up for West Bromwich Dartmouth (WBD) against Walsall in Premier Division, which is one of the country’s oldest cricket leagues.
The 33-year old will be joined by his brothers in the game. His brother, Omar, and his cousin Kabir, who represented England in 1 Test and 14 ODIs as a bowling all-rounder, will be on his team. Another cousin, Ismail Mohammed, who is on the staff at Worcestershire, is also in the side.
His oldest brother, Kadeer, who is the regular skipper of WBD, will be unavailable for the family reunion game as he has been asked to help out the Worcestershire first team in a coaching capacity (he is the county’s second XI coach) this weekend; Kabir will captain the side in Kadeer’s absence.

Moeen Ali and the other IPL English players – Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes – have been given rest from the 2-Test series versus New Zealand. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are recovering from their injuries.
Before the suspension of the IPL 2021, the Super Kings are placed at the second position on the points table with 5 wins in 7 matches, and have looked at the dominant side they were unlike the previous season. The addition of Moeen Ali has been observed as a big boost to the side – in 6 matches he scored 206 runs at a strike rate of 157.25 and picked up 5 wickets.
