Mohammad Amir, who played for the Pakistan National Cricket Team, now officially a British citizen, confirmed that his chapter as a cricketer for Pakistan is now closed. As he is now a British citizen, he is now formally eligible to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. Amir, in a recent interview, revealed his plans related to Pakistan and the IPL.
Speaking on Furqan Bhatti's YouTube channel, Mohammad Amir confirmed the news that he is currently a British Citizen, no longer a Pakistani. In the podcast, the experienced seamer mentioned that he got limited opportunities because he was a citizen of Pakistan.

In the recently concluded The Hundred league, Mohammad Amir played as a local player. Because of his British citizenship, he is now also eligible to play in the County Championship because of his present citizenship status. As he is now officially a British citizen because of his wife Narjis Khan, his career as a Pakistan cricketer has ended.
"I am a British local now. When you play in competitions such as the County Championship and The Hundred as a local player, you have to sign a document stating that you cannot play for another country as a local. So, the Pakistan chapter I had before is now closed," said Mohammad Amir.
Mohammad Amir discloses his chances to play in the IPL
When he was asked about his chances to play in the IPL as a British cricketer, Amir had no clear answer. In response, he stated that his focus will be on the Pakistan Super League (PSL), not on the Indian Premier League.
"I will play in the PSL in 2027 as an overseas player. As for the IPL, I don't know yet whether I will participate," Amir added in the same video.
Mohammad Amir's career with the Pakistan National Cricket Team and in the recent franchise leagues
Amir announced his retirement from international cricket after the 2024 T20 World Cup, after representing the Pakistan National Cricket Team across the formats. Before taking retirement, the fast bowler played for the Men in Green in 36 Tests. In those 36 Tests and 67 innings, the pacer picked 119 wickets with four 5-fers and 6 four-fers.
In the One-Day Internationals, Amir represented the team in 61 matches to take 80 wickets for an economy rate of 4.77. He played for Pakistan in the shortest format of the game as well. In the T20Is, the left-arm seamer claimed 71 wickets in 61 innings for an economy rate of 7.07.
In this year's The Hundred tournament, he played a crucial role for the Trent Rockets. For the Rockets, he bagged 9 wickets in 7 matches and as many innings in exchange for an economy rate of 7.88, with a best figure of 1/28. In the season, he established himself as a regular wicket-taker for the Trent Rockets. In PSL 2026, for Rawalpindi, the veteran fast bowler snapped 12 wickets in 10 matches.
