There is always a comparison between Indian batsman Virat Kohli and Pakistani batter Babar Azam. While Kohli has dominated world cricket for over a decade and has many records to his name, Babar is currently the number one ODI batsman and is known to be one of the best players in modern-day cricket. Both batsmen are also known for their drives and and classy shots they play on the cricket field.

Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir was asked to choose between Virat Kohli’s cover drive and Babar Azam’s cover drive along with ace Pakistani pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi. Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik asked the question to both the left-arm pacers. Both the players played for the Desert Vipers in the ILT20 2024.

Mohammad Amir shocked after Shaheen Shah Afridi chooses Babar Azam’s cover drive over Virat Kohli

While Mohammad Amir chose Virat Kohli‘s cover drive over Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi picked Babar’s cover drive. The main focus during the whole incident was Amir’s reaction when Shaheen picked Babar.

One of the greatest batsmen of the modern era, Virat Kohli is renowned for his commitment to the Test format. As a member of the Indian Test team, Virat has scored runs in every country on earth. He has always said that the red-ball format is his favorite.

On the other hand, Babar Azam is majorly seen performing well against low-ranked teams such as Zimbabwe and Nepal. Babar struggled to score runs against quality attacks such as India, England, and Australia wherein he is currently undergoing the rough phase of his cricketing career.

Babar also resigned from the captaincy position of Pakistan after their debacle in the ODI World Cup 2023. Babar wasn’t able to score runs in the tournament and didn’t bat as the number one ODI batsman.

In the Test series he played against South Africa, Virat Kohli scored some respectable runs in each of the two matches. Virat has become a much better batsman in the past 18 months.

With an average of 66.06 and 2048 runs in 35 games, including eight hundreds, Kohli concluded the season as one of the leading run scorers. In addition, Kohli was named the ICC ODI Player of the Year for his exceptional year-long performance in the 50-over format.

At the 2023 ODI World Cup, Virat Kohli amassed 1377 runs in 27 games, including three centuries. Player of the Tournament went to Kohli, who amassed the highest run total throughout the competition.

There is no comparison between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. While Babar has yet to achieve many records in international cricket, Virat has already achieved many records and has set new milestones.

Kohli is currently in the final years of his career and apart from being a phenomenal batsman, he was a brilliant captain. On the other hand, Pakistan didn’t see any major success under Babar Azam’s leadership.

Virat Kohli is also the only batsman to smash 50 ODI tons in ODI cricket and has hit 80 international centuries. He is one of the prime players to level Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 100 centuries in international cricket.
