Pakistan is set for a white-ball tour of Australia where they will play three ODIs and three T20Is against the home team. A number of new faces are likely to feature in Pakistan's squad for the series.

There were speculations that the left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir might also play the ODIs in order to be available for the Champions Trophy next year. Amir, who featured in Pakistan's team for the T20 World Cup 2024, was expected to be available for the ODI format as well.

Will Mohammad Amir make an ODI comeback?

According to a report in Cricket Pakistan, Mohammad Amir will not be a part of Pakistan's squad for the ODI series against Australia. A number of new outlets had earlier reported that the PCB reached out to Amir asking about his availability to play ODIs.

Instead of going back to Mohammad Amir, Pakistan will field a strong pace attack comprising of Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf. Mohammad Hasnain is also likely to be a part of the squad.

Recently, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah were dropped from Pakistan's Test team for the final two Tests against England at home. But the fast-bowling duo is likely to be back for the Australia tour.

Alongside these two pacers, star batter Babar Azam is also likely to be back in national colors for both the white-ball series. Babar was also dropped after the first Test against England due to poor form in the last few months.

Mohammad Amir's last ODI match

Mohammad Amir's last ODI was way back in 2019 against Sri Lanka. He has been actively involved in T20 leagues across the world ever since announcing his international retirement in 2021. He has transformed himself into a skillful T20 bowler and is useful with his variations.

Amir made an international return this year and played for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 where he was Pakistan's joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 7 wickets in 4 matches at an average of 10.28 and an economy rate of 4.28.

His successful return in the T20 World Cup had sparked his return to the ODIs as well. Given Pakistan's recent struggles in the pace bowling department, Amir's experience would have been handy for the team. But the PCB is likely to persist with their original pace attack.

Mohammad Amir's numbers in Australia

Amir has picked up 26 wickets in Australia across all the formats. He has a good amount of experience of playing in Australia. While he won't be a part of the ODI team, Amir might be in Pakistan's T20I squad.

Pakistan's tour of Australia will begin on November 4 at Melbourne with three ODIs. After the ODI series, the two teams will face off against each other in a three-match T20I series beginning on November 14.

The ODI series will be a good preparation for both teams ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, to be held in February-March next year. Both teams will be looking to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the marquee tournament.
