Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir opened up about playing in the next edition of the IPL in 2026. The left-arm fast bowler revealed that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is his favorite team in the IPL, adding that star Indian batter Virat Kohli deserves to win the coveted trophy.

Mohammad Amir, whose wife Narjis is a UK citizen, is hoping to obtain a UK passport, which could make him eligible to play in the IPL. Pakistani cricketers have not participated in the league since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Players like Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, and Sohail Tanvir played in the IPL 2008.

"RCB is my favorite. Whenever you watch interviews, RCB is my favorite. I don't know why. First of all, Virat Kohli is there. And I feel that he always makes a good team, but he deserves to win a trophy," Mohammad Amir said.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Yet to Secure IPL Trophy

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have participated in every IPL season but have never secured the title. The team reached the finals three times—in 2009, 2011, and 2016.

Faf du Plessis led the team to the playoffs during the IPL 2022 season. RCB reached Qualifier 2 but lost to Rajasthan Royals.

Virat Kohli, who debuted for RCB in 2008, is the leading run-scorer in IPL history. He captained RCB from 2013 to 2021. Under his leadership, RCB had 66 wins from 143 matches and made the playoffs four times, including a runners-up finish in 2016, when they lost to SunRisers Hyderabad in the final.

After stepping down as captain post-IPL 2021, Kohli was replaced by Faf du Plessis, who has since guided the team to the playoffs twice. Middle-order batter Rajat Patidar was appointed as captain ahead of IPL 2025.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Strong Form in IPL 2025 Season

Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their fifth victory in the IPL 2025 season, defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) away from home. This win was revenge for their recent loss to PBKS at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium just two days prior.

RCB has won 5 out of the 7 matches they've played so far in the season, with all of their victories coming away from home. To secure a spot in the playoffs, RCB needs to win 3 of their remaining 6 matches. 16 points are enough to guarantee a playoff berth.

The team also needs to maintain a strong net run-rate, as this has been a decisive factor in previous seasons for playoff qualification. With teams like MI, PBKS, and LSG having the same points as RCB, they need to perform in upcoming matches to keep their hopes alive.
