In a recent development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed former cricketer Mohammad Masroor as the new fielding coach for the national cricket team. Mohammad Masroor will be taking over the charge of the role for the upcoming away series against Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa.

Yesterday, Gary Kirsten resigned as head coach of Pakistan's ODI and T20I teams just six months after signing a contract with the PCB in April 2024. He resigned from the role after conflicts with the cricket board and some players. This decision sparked a debate among fans and former Pakistan cricketers.

Mohammad Masroor Appointed As Pakistan's Fielding Coach

As per the report, Jason Gillespie recommended Mohammad Masroor for the fielding coach after being impressed by Masroor’s coaching techniques during the Pakistan Shaheens' tour of Australia. Masroor had served as the fielding coach for the national team during two Test matches against England.

"Sources indicate that Masroor's appointment came on the recommendation of Jason Gillespie, who was impressed by Masroor’s coaching methods during the Pakistan Shaheens' tour of Australia," reported Cricket Pakistan.

Mohammad Masroor Set To Take On His First Full-Time Coaching Role

Mohammad Masroor is taking on his first full-time coaching role with the Pakistan cricket team. The former cricketer has worked with the Pakistan Shaheens and the Under-19 team in the past. Masroor also worked as an assistant coach to Steve Rixon during the home series against the West Indies in 2018.

Masroor is set to leave for Australia with other players from Karachi tomorrow as he steps into his new role. The Pakistan national cricket team, led by newly appointed skipper Mohammad Rizwan, will start their preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025 with the upcoming ODI series against Australia.

Jason Gillespie To Coach Pakistan After Gary Kirsten's Resignation "Accepted"

Earlier this year, the PCB revised its policies, removing the selection responsibilities from head coach Gary Kirsten and his fellow coach Jason Gillespie. The PCB removed the coaches from the decision-making process regarding team selection after the first Test match against England at home.

The change in selection policies has led to dissatisfaction among the coaching staff. Gillespie said that he feels like a mere "match-day analyst," adding that "it wasn't what he signed up for." While Kirsten has not publicly commented, he is also disappointed with the decision by the cricket board.

The Pakistan Cricket Board announced on October 28 that it had accepted Gary Kirsten's resignation as the men's white-ball head coach. Jason Gillespie, the red-ball coach, will take over for the upcoming tour of Australia. Both Kirsten and Gillespie were appointed as head coaches in April 2024.

The Men in Green will tour Australia for a white-ball series, including three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The ODI matches are scheduled to take place between November 4 and 10, while the T20I series will be played from November 14 to 18.
