Mohammad Rizwan's valiant effort with the bat went in vain as Pakistan suffered a humiliating 10-wicket loss against Bangladesh in the recently concluded Rawalpindi Test.

The wicketkeeper-batsman top-scored for his team in both the innings but his efforts were not enough for Pakistan to avoid a first-ever Test defeat against Bangladesh. In the first innings, the right-handed batsman scored a brilliant century that helped Pakistan recover from a poor start and post a big total.

Asked to bat first, Pakistan were reeling at 16 for 3 and then 114 for 4 before Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan scored brilliant tons to bail their team out of trouble. While Shakeel was out for 141 runs, his partner remained unbeaten on 171 runs as Pakistan declared their innings on 448/6.

In reply, a stunning 191-run knock from veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim helped Bangladesh pile up 565 runs to take a big lead of 117 runs. On the fifth day of the Test, Pakistan suffered an inexplicable collapse and were bowled out for just 146 runs after starting the day on 23 for 1. Mohammad Rizwan impressed with the bat in the second innings too as he scored 51 runs.

Set a target of 30 runs, Bangladesh chased down the total in less than 7 overs without losing a wicket to register a historic win. Before this win, Bangladesh had faced Pakistan in 13 Tests and lost 12 of them while drawing one.

Mohammad Rizwan shatters Rishabh Pant's record:

Mohammad Rizwan has shattered his India counterpart Rishabh Pant's record after starring with the bat in both innings against Bangladesh. He now holds the record for a wicketkeeper scoring most runs in a World Test Championship match.

The Pakistan star scored 222 runs in the Rawalpindi Test. The record was previously held by Rishabh Pant who had scored 203 runs in the 2023 Edgbaston Test against England. Pant had scored 146 runs in the first innings before scoring 57 runs in the second. However, just like Rizwan, Pant had also failed to power India to a victory or even a draw.

Rizwan also broke the 44-year-old record of wicketkeeper-batters scoring most runs in a Test match for Pakistan. The record was previously held by Taslim Arif, who scored 210 runs against Australia in the 1980 Faislabad Test.
