Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director of Media and Communications Aalia Rasheed has confirmed that keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan is not part of the investigation against former chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq over conflict of interest case.

Inzamam-ul-Haq recently surprised many when he stepped down from the post of chief selector. There were quite a few allegations against him including he holds shares in a company, Yazoo International Ltd, owned by players’ agent Talha Rehmani.

The controversies sparked because of Rehmani represents several of Pakistan’s cricketers, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Inzamam-ul-Haq came under scanner because of his dual role and following the allegations he resigned.

There were also reports that apart from Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan is also the director at the UK-based company. This raised quite a few eyebrows as well. Many said if there was scrutiny over Inzamam-ul-Haq for the dual role then how keeper-batter is keeping the double role?

Mohammad Rizwan not involved in any investigation- PCB

But PCB Director of Media and Communications Aalia Rasheed confirmed that Mohammad Rizwan is not part of the investigation. She highlighted players need to invest the money they earn so that they remain financially stable after retirement. Speaking to Geo News, he explained:

“Rizwan is not involved in this matter at all because a player has a limited career and they need to invest the money they earn in order to be financially stable after their playing days are over. Even Inzamam would not have been questioned if he was not the chief selector.”

Aaali Rasheed further talked about Inzamam-ul-Haq’s decision to resign. She said that the former skipper should’ve realized that it was a sensitive matter. Further talking about the conflict of interest case, she added:

“I don’t understand why Inzamam resigned? He should have realised that the PCB had to take some steps to address the controversy because it was a sensitive matter. PCB took immediate action like a professional organisation and formed a fact-finding committee to assess whether there was a conflict of interest but it didn’t remove Inzamam as chief selector.

“If the players and Inzamam’s agent is the same, then there is definitely a conflict of interest. He can also influence a lot of players. It also gives too much power to one agent. I think it was Inzamam’s responsibility to inform the PCB about any potential conflict of interest. No cricket board wants to create a controversy during a World Cup and get ridiculed on the media.”

Aalia also admitted that it wasn’t good to publicize the chat between Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and PCB Chief Executive Officer (COO) Salman Naseer.
