Mohammad Rizwan is reportedly unhappy with the selectors’ decision to drop him and Babar Azam from the T20I squad for the five-match series in New Zealand. Rizwan and Babar Azam are expected to meet with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to discuss their exclusion and seek clarity on their future.

Mohammad Rizwan was removed as Pakistan’s T20I captain ahead of their white-ball tour of New Zealand. Pakistan, led by Salman Ali Agha, managed just one win in the T20I series and lost 1-4. Rizwan and Babar Azam were part of the ODI squad, where Pakistan endured a 3-0 clean sweep by the hosts.

Mohammad Rizwan Set to Meet PCB Chairman for Clarity on T20I Future

Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam were dropped from the T20I squad to give opportunities to younger players under the leadership of new captain Salman Agha. According to a senior PCB official, Rizwan is set to meet PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to discuss his exclusion.

“Rizwan is due to meet the PCB chairman as soon as he gets an opportunity to seek clarity on his axing from the T20I side,” the sources close to the Pakistan captain told Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net).

Mohammad Rizwan was appointed Pakistan's white-ball captain in October last year. He was rested for the Zimbabwe series but returned to lead the side in the T20Is against South Africa.

After Pakistan's loss in the third ODI against New Zealand, Rizwan spoke about his exclusion from the T20I squad during a press conference. He said that he and Babar Azam had been consulted by the selectors before they were dropped from the T20 side.

Rizwan to Seek More Power in Team Selection

The report added that Mohammad Rizwan had disagreements with head coach Aaqib Javed regarding the team selection for the first two ODIs. Pakistan opted for only four specialist bowlers and used part-timers Salman Agha and Irfan Khan — a move that backfired as the duo gave away 118 runs combined.

The report also stated that Rizwan plans to request greater authority in team selection, and if denied, he may consider stepping down as ODI captain.

"Rizwan will seek more power in the selection of the playing eleven for the match, and there is a possibility that if not given full power, then he might resign from ODI captaincy," the source said.

PCB in Talks With Foreign Coaches to Replace Interim Head Coach Aaqib Javed

The Pakistan Cricket Board has begun reaching out to potential candidates, including a few foreign coaches, to replace interim head coach Aaqib Javed. Some former Pakistani cricketers are also being considered for the role.

With players currently part of their respective teams in the Pakistan Super League until May 18, the national team is next scheduled to face Bangladesh in a five-match T20I series following the tournament.

Mohammad Rizwan will hope to seek answers from the PCB regarding his removal from the T20I squad. He wants to gain clarity on the extent of his authority as captain in the white-ball formats ahead of Pakistan’s upcoming fixtures.
