Former India all-rounder and 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal slammed ex-Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf for using a derogatory term against Team India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav. Lal described Mohammad Yousuf as “stupid,” saying that it is unacceptable for a former international cricketer to abuse players.
India secured a seven-wicket win over Pakistan during the group-stage match in the Asia Cup 2025. Following the game, Yousuf criticized Suryakumar for refusing to shake hands with Salman Ali Agha. Speaking on SAMAA TV, Mohammad Yousuf made derogatory remarks and also accused India of influencing the umpires.
That Was Total Stupidness - Madan Lal Slams Mohammad Yousuf
Madan Lal hit back at Mohammad Yousuf’s derogatory remarks against Suryakumar Yadav. Speaking to India Today, Lal also stated that such behavior was “stupid.”
“Oh, see, that is the character of Pakistan. How can you abuse anybody? These are the only things they know and don’t know anything else. I can’t say anything more about that. Abuse is very wrong, and coming from a former cricketer, that was total stupidity,” Lal told India Today.
Lal dismissed Mohammad Yousuf’s claims of umpiring bias, stating that modern technologies like DRS ensure fair play. Lal also said that Yousuf’s remarks undermined the spirit and integrity of the game.
Suryakumar Yadav Skipped the Customary Handshake with Pakistan Players After the Victory
Relations between India and Pakistan have worsened following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 26 tourists. Fans and former Indian cricketers had urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to avoid sporting ties. However, India faced Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025.
After the victory, Suryakumar Yadav skipped the customary handshake and dedicated the win to the victims of the Pahalgam attack. Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha withdrew from the post-match presentation.
In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board filed a formal complaint with the ICC, demanding the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft. They accused Pycroft of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct and the MCC’s Spirit of Cricket guidelines.
