Mohammed Shami breaks silence on ‘personal’ relationship with India selector

Will Mohammed Shami get another chance to shine in the Team India jersey? The answer remains unclear. Thanks to RP Singh, a former Indian pacer who is now a member of the Team selection committee, fans of Shami have started to dream again.

In a recent interview, the Bengal pacer was asked about his relationship with RP Singh. In recent times, Shami and Singh were spotted in conversation, after which many started to believe that the former India cricketer could open the national team door again for the Bengal seamer.

Maintaining a professional approach, in the interview, Mohammed Shami stated that some relationships are beyond professions. RP Singh is now a BCCI selector, and Shami is looking for another opportunity, but the conversation was mostly based on personal relationships and brotherhood.

The star pacer also said that when a player is on the ground for a domestic season, everyone keeps an eye on the player, including the selectors. But human beings, people often communicate with each other, which is not because of their respective professions or roles.

"If you are playing a domestic season, then everyone is watching you. There are teams there. There is a selection committee there. So there is no doubt in that. But as a human being, you have connections. You have relations with everyone. It is not that you will only connect with someone as a profession. Mohammed Shami was one of the most standout bowlers in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season. For Bengal, the experienced fast bowler scaled 38 times in this season, including an 8-wicket figure. In the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Jammu & Kashmir in Kalyani, February 17, Shami delivered a sensational 8-wicket haul. During a Ranji Trophy match against Services, the pacer returned with 5/51 figures. Overall, the 35-year-old bagged 38 wickets in 7 matches, including five five-fors.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was equally impressive. He claimed 15 wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of 6.09.

Despite all the bowling efforts in recent times, the board overlooked the pacer again and again. More than his abilities or bowling skills, the concern remains because of the bowler's fitness.
