Mohammed Shami makes his case stronger than ever for another stint with the India National Cricket Team. According to Lalith Kalidas, an Indian Express Journalist, with the brace against Central Zone, Shami has completed his 900 wickets in his professional cricket career and is only the sixth Indian pacer to touch the landmark across First Class cricket, List A cricket and T20 cricket formats.

Mohammed Shami continues his form across domestic tournaments
With the next ODI World Cup coming in 2027, all of the teams are in the process of finding out their best possible playing combination. Teams like Australia, which are mostly reliant on their experienced pacers despite injuries, and the Indian team management mostly show their trust in the emerging cricketers.
Shami is among the fast bowlers in recent times who continues to be a fan-favorite seamer. Since making a return from surgery, the Bengal pacer, who is currently playing for the East Zone cricket team in the Duleep Trophy, has been taking wickets at a constant rate.
In the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, Shami claimed 37 wickets in 13 matches, including an eight-wicket figure in the second semi-final of the league. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the seamer claimed 15 wickets in 7 matches, es including an economy rate of 6.10, and in the previous season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he bagged 16 wickets in 7 matches for an economy rate of 8.91.

After producing eye-catching numbers in all three domestic competitions, Mohammed Shami entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season with the Lucknow Super Giants and bagged 12 wickets in 13 matches for an economy rate of 9.00.
He started the quarter-finals of the ongoing Duleep Trophy with high hopes but remained wicket-less in the previous match. Shami bounced back soon for East Zone and left his mark permanently by taking wickets in the semi-finals of the tournament.
