Mohammed Shami out of action for a long time
Mohammed Shami has not played any competitive cricket since the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India. After suffering an Achilles tendon injury during the competition, he underwent surgery, following which he had to undergo a long rehabilitation program.
Shami worked very hard on his fitness during this period and was on the path to full recovery before the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
However, disaster struck as the right-arm pacer suffered a fresh knee setback that pushed his comeback date further. India skipper Rohit Sharma had confirmed that the pacer had suffered a swelling on his knee.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami was not picked in India's Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. A total of eight pacers have been included in the squad, including the reserves.
Jasprit Bumrah will be the leader of the attack, which consists of Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana in the main squad and Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini in the reserves.
Mohammed Shami finally makes his comeback but fails to bag wickets
Mohammed Shami was recently seen bowling to the India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar after the Bengaluru Test between India and New Zealand, which was a clear hint that his comeback was around the corner.
Shami made his comeback with the bat in Bengal's first innings as Anustup Majumdar's team were invited to bat first by Team MP. The right-hander scored 2 runs off 6 balls before getting dismissed as Bengal were bowled out for 228.
Then came Shami's turn to bowl, and in his first spell, he delivered 6 overs, where he bowled one maiden and conceded 18 runs. He bowled tight lines and lengths but wasn't able to get a breakthrough.
Meanwhile, in his second spell also, Shami wasn't able to trouble the batters as he conceded 16 runs in 4 overs and went wicketless. He would be hoping to pick some wickets on day 2 and send a message to the BCCI selection committee.
