Mohammed Shami set for comeback in New Zealand Tests, confirms BCCI official

India National Cricket Team fast bowler Mohammed Shami is right on the track to make his comeback to the team. As per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that the fast bowler might make the international return through the upcoming Test series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team.
Mohammed Shami reportedly has been putting in hard yards in the BCCI's newly inaugurated NCA, which is called the Center of Excellence. The fast bowler is giving every possible thing to get fit, and the governing body is targeting New Zealand Tests for his return to cricket after a while.
A senior BCCI official confirmed the development, saying that he is under the watchful eyes of the governing body. He also mentioned that the fast bowler has made good progress. Speaking to Times of India, he explained:
"Shami's rehab is very much on track. New Zealand Tests are being kept as a realistic target. He is under the watchful eyes of BCCI specialists and making very good progress."
There were reports that Mohammed Shami was all set to return to the India Team through the Bangladesh Tests. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India decided to not rush him. The series concluded recently with India National Cricket Team winning the series by the margin of 2-0.
There were reports on Wednesday (2nd October) which almost gave a scare to almost every Indian fan. It was learned that Mohammed Shami has suffered a swollen knee, and he might miss the upcoming five-match Test series against the Australia, Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
However, the fast bowler quashed the rumours, saying that the reports were baseless and he is doing his best to make a return. He also urged people not to trust the fake news as he posted a bold message on his Twitter account.

But the fresh reports have claimed that Mohammed Shami is also in line to be fit for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. India will be touring to Australia for the five-match Test series in November-December and January. If fit, he will be extremely vital for his team going into the series. India has won last two series dow under and would be keen to complete hat-trick of wins in Australia.
Shami has been out of action since the end of the ICC World Cup 2023. He faced an ankle injury in the tournament and, after that, underwent surgery. Since then he has been putting in hard yards at the NCA and also has resumed bowling in the nets as well.
Earlier, there were reports which claimed that Mohammed Shami had been included in the 31-member probably for the Bengal squad for the Ranji Trophy 2025. The fast bowler might feature in the first game for Bengal against Uttar Pradesh from 11th October before making a return to the India team.
